511. Re: 3 foot guides
Forgot to mention they are going on Harrington 540 and 542 blanks.
The guides are for an 8.5ft and an 8ft foot tarpon rod.
Russ,
As of yet, no. This is the reason I asked him to show me the guides.

512. Re: 3 foot guides
I suspect he either does not have SiC guides or does not have true 3 footed guides.
As far as I know 3 Foot guides are very limited in what is available.

513. 3 foot guides
I am curious if these exist and where to find them if they do. I asked the customer to show me the exact guide he is looking for as from these specifications, I cannot find anything even remotely close. He wants to match two rods to two others previously built and requires guides with the following.
1.triple foot
2. SIC
3. gold
Thanks for you help in advance.

Thank you guys.
Jim I was looking at those previously and thought similar.
Custom Tackle Supply - I would love to talk him into a 5'6 - 6' blank, but he wont budge mainly because this is for use on party boats quite often and the shortest rod he wants is 7 feet. The fact that I fish the same boat(s) makes me fully aware of the need for a minimum of a 6'6 blank. I have one I use on the bow t

I have a guy who is looking into a rod. He wants something capable of withstanding the power of 80-100 pound braided line and a locked down drag. It will be used on the east coast of Florida for grouper.
My question is what 7-8' blanks are capable of withstanding this torture.
He has a Gator Glass T70XH he uses on the west coast of Florida and thinks that the rod does not have enough power

I used it in a pinch a while back to secure a tip to a fiberglass rod. Recently I have redone the rod, and the blank failed before rod bond did. The blank was planned to be shortened anyways in my case, but I found out just how strong rod bond really is.

I live here, but if you do not see something on their site, give them a call. They have more stuff in that place than I can find to do with.

I had a homebuilt 16RPM dryer. It worked well, or so I thought. I use butt caps instead of a chuck to hold the rod centered.
While changing out to a different cap, I broke the shaft off the motor. So I went looking for a new one.
I found out why most of you all are using a 6RPM or less motor. I have a 5RPM now and the difference is amazing.
I had the option of purchasing 3/4, 1, 2, or 5,

Makes perfect sense to me. I wasnt sure if thats what you meant or not. I guess I have a really nice foot pedal as I can go really slow to all the way up to full speed (which I will not wrap a rod with). I do need a motor with more torque as my current one is sluggish and needs a little help when it comes to heavier trolling and bottom rods of which I build a lot of.

I use a foot pedal with a delicate toe. Thats only what works for me however.
What do you guys mean by variable speed, are you talking about single speed motor connected to a foot pedal or the motor itself has more than one speed and you have some sort of toggle switch and still use the foot pedal?
Rick, in any case, I sent you an email.

522. Re: Finish problem
That was what common sense was telling me, but sometimes my version of common sense doesn't work out with the normal idea(s). I am happy to report that the re-coat came out great however.

I already cut off what I could, just wanted to know whether to sand while still soft or wait until it hardens further. Thank you VERY MUCH Tom.

524. Finish problem
Well I went away to eat lunch leaving my rod on the dryer and much to my dismay, I came back to a spinning motor and a rod not spinning. This was the 2nd and usually last coat. I usually only use fine steel wool to get any problems with finish out before the 2nd coat, and thats it. I am using Classic Coat if that helps answer any questions. I realize I will have to cut off the sags and sand it

526. Re: Straightest axis
sometimes you wont see it until you rotate the rod while sighting down it. It will look straight and as you rotate you will notice its not, most are slightly curved. I am yet to find a perfectly straight blank to build on.

I used to have this problem until my old motor died. I learned to wrap lefty for a while, which was awkward, but now I am back to right. If A/C motor which I will assume it is. simply reversing polarity at the outlet will do nothing.
In order to achieve what you are looking for, you will have to either change motors, rewire internally (do not attempt if you dont know what you are doing as sta

Depends how I made the weave usually. In some cases I orient it nose to butt, others nose to tip, and in some odd cases I have even oriented the fish sideways.
Custom weaves make it nice to do whatever you want. :)
Natural feeling tells me left to right, and this also implies "fishy, come home with me."

531. Weave Jig
Have any of you attempted to create your own weave jig? Until I break down and buy one, I seem to be stuck with the tape method. Doing the weave I have created will be more than one layer, something I have not tried and somehow I do not think the tape method will work very well for this application.
Something I came up with uses flexi-foam off of the concept of the Wonder Weaver. But I cannot

This sounds like my exact project I am working on currently. I was given a friends broken production rod from which all I did after looking it over was scavenge guides. My rod is MUCH lighter however so I do not know about the stress you may be causing to the blank. The blank I am using is a 12-20# blank with which I intend to fish 15-20# line. It however still is my first spiral wrap. I went wit

Along with the Batson, look at Gator Glass T70L, 15-30 Blank. It is a bit on the heavy side in terms of weight compared to the Batson, but if mostly used for trolling sitting a rod holder, that will not matter much. The tip is about as soft as they come and from what the good guys at mudhole told me, they are built to fit the unibutts. I recently built a rod on this blank that is rated 15-30#, a

Do you guys gunsight the rods with both eyes or just a single eye. I do my left eye first with the rod off to my left side, then vice versa, then hold the butt to my chest and with both eyes open sight it. Usually if I adjusted them with my right eye, I will find other defects in alignment with my left, and still very SLIGHT misalignment with both eyes. I think our eyes were designed to see direc

I am curious to know which Gator Glass blank you used. I use them almost exclusively, to the point where I have had people ask me if they were graphite on certain blanks.
The 6702, @#$%& and FT models are a whole lot lighter than the GATOR, Unlimited, KC, T and U models. I just picked up a BS586 and next to a Calstar GFX700L they were pretty close in weight.
Rating on Gator BS586 is 12-25#
