Just out in the shed and a had an epiphany-I'm gonna take a pitchfork, saw off the plastic handle, and mount a size 40 chrome fly tip where the handle used to be. I'm planning on marbling the whole thing- a hot pink base coat with lime green swirls. I will use the new new new anti-Kirkman concept guide system where the largest guides are towards the tip and the butt guide ring is a size 6-this

Should I leave out the 75 thread weave I had planned for the tip section?

I need help with a new rod. I will be using it mostly for targeting "midging" bluefins or for "tailing" finger mullet. I am looking for a 15 piece, 1 wt. noodle-rod in the 12 foot range. I plan on using a series of 10 big-game roller guides in a spiral wrap that goes completely around the rod twice. I'll be using an AFTCO bent-unibutt with built-in gimbal. I plan to coat

252. Re: pull loop
I now use Kevlar thread exclusively-the type you use to yank down on and spin deer hair. One 6-8 inch piece will last a whole rod and I've never had a piece, even a frayed piece, break while pulling a thread thru.

I try to support as many vendors as I can and have dealt with Mudhole quite a bit-great company, great people and great service. I can't imagine running a business and dealing with the volume they (and other vendors) deal with and not making a few mistakes now and then. I have tremendous respect for all the vendors and have never had a problem with any of them.

I agree with all the above observations but I want to give kudos to Andy Dear's darling wife Emily. Just a lovely and gracious person who demonstrated great charm and poise in the midst of the madness. Oh, and she kindly let me put my handful of blanks and components in their booth while I continued to shop and didn't get mad when I knocked a box of cork foregrips off the table, through the cur

What a great show- the bargains were fabulous. I bought about 25 blanks and spent an average of $12.00 per. Great work by Tom-this thing will grow so big soon that we will not need the flyfiishing show . As a whole, rodbuilders are a fun, generous and friendly lot. Great to see everybody from the site.

Just had a guy come in and want and 8 foot surf rod for his wife. I assume I'll have no problem locating such a blank in Charlotte- amd I right or should I have one of the vendors bring one for me. He doesn't care if it's 1 or 2 pieces. Thanks for the help-David Spence, Beaufort, NC

Every piece of clothing and every flat surface in the house has some sort of glue residue on it.
You have more razor blades than a powder cocaine addict.
You actually like going to Walmart, just to get to the craft section.
You have more PVC pipe than a plumber.

I had a similar experience recently when my great looking yellow and orange chevron fade turned to crap after CP was applied. I solved the problem by removing the wrap and laying down a base coat of epoxy that I tinted with tan pigment (the same technique used in laying down a base coat when marbling). Works great and is easier than a base coat of light thread.

261. Wood and cork grip
I am getting ready to try my first combination wood and cork grip. I turn my grips on a mandrel and shape on a lathe. Any pointers for gluing up, turning etc. would be appreciated. Thanks!

I want to build a spin/fly combo and want to know what do I use to fit into the rear of the reel seat to give the extra length needed when in the spin rod mode. Mark Janeck's combo in a past Rodbuilder mag had an extension similar to those for screw in fighting butts. Where are such extensions available? Thanks!
