I use regular finish, once it hardend I run in on the lathe with 2000- 3000 grit sandpaer and it will be matt, ( low RPM on the guides, you might even try Steel wool)

I tried first a bigger picture and it would not work than I tried a small picture as what I got now it would not work than tried a third time and it worked with the thunbnail, take them out please and I will try again.

I tried to upload some pics, and received after every upload a white screen instead of the info sheet for the pic and the photos are no where, does any body else have that problem.

If you got only 20-30 minutes, you are very limited, so I would explain why to get a custom rod and not one of the shelf, fisrt chapter in Clemens his book.

My new Steelhead, Surf and Spinn blanks have arrived.
I got 14 and 15 ft surf Rods 4 pc
Steelhead rods in 9 to 14 ft. 4 pc
spinning rods from 7 and 9 ft. 4 pc
Harrison blanks: Trebuchet ( catapult) 13 ft., Point (Steelhead) 10 ft., Chimera (Float rod) 13 ft.

I agree the only difference are the ferrules, but if you get a good blank you should not have any trouble with them, my new Blanks are up to 15 ft. 4 pc, and they hold up.

If you are building a Rod for the use of a Center pin reel you have to use small Match guides starting with size 10 down to 4. The other part is the casting with a Center pin reel, it is not that easy. If you are going straight after Steelies, you will you lighter tackle (drift boobers as the Drennan Avon ) thats when you want a soft rod. If you give more Info how you are planning to us

I have several Float rod Blanks from England, where they fished since over 30 years with the fine floats, I have blanks up to 14 feet in 3 pc,and in about 2 weeks also in 4 sections for better transport, you will find those blanks on my website under Harrison or MSC Blanks.

The amount of the shades is up to you. If you are going from light to dark, start with White, if you are trying from dark to light start with Black, if you do that your eye will have a focus point and will not recognize the single thread lines. I would keep the Numbers small, the fewer threads you have in one color the harder it is for the eye to pick up the single threads, so they will blend better together, I usually dont go over 3 threads, for more Info E-mail me or call mrcrous@aol.com, 304-3220055
