want the spey rod to be used for steelheads on ohio streams and maybe michigan. I also would like to use it in Fla. as I wade thebeaches and the added length would help to keep line off water and allow longer casts. I built a 10' 8 wt which I use for sea trout and reds, jacks and such.

want to build a spey rod for salt water and an occasional steelhead trip. looking at rainshadow but can't decide on wt and length. 12' 6" 6 wt seems light and 13' 7 sounds a little heavy for steelhead. Quite frankly I just want to build one cause I dont have one and have not built a rod for a couple of months and I dont have a spey rod.any advice?

Iwill build my first spey rod and I am undecided between 12' 6 6 wt. forecast and a similar one on a rain shadow blank. the rain shadow seems to be a more advanced rod blank with a different make up of 3 types of graphite. not a lot of diference in price. any advice appreciated. flymanbill

I am considering building my first spey rod on a rain shadow blank and i am puzzled by: guide placement; reel seat choice {7/8 wt rod}; probable single foot guides;I am also considering a kit from hook and hackle for the above. Probable 12'6 or 13 ft. any experience or suggestions,or source materials to bone up on building a spey rod. I have built 5 or 6 rods in the past but never a spey. t

A fellow inquired about a 13ft blank for making a spinning rod. I thought of a spey rod blank with a spinning reel seat but was not sure if it would work.

I repaired my loose cork by cutting the offending cork with a razor knife or exacto tool, spreading the epoxy then spinning the cork and taping till glue sat up. can sand with very fine paper and fill if necessary. the syringe method sounds easier if you can get the glue to spread.
