Just don't put epoxy OVER the blank. Use it on the wraps ONLY.

It's called the I-N-T-E-R-N-E-T and bad information abounds! Seriously, I have seen other rod building sites where color preserver was discussed and some people mentioned heating it. I doubt they had any idea why they were heating it or what the heat was supposed to do for them. But I've seen it mentioned. Not here but on some other sites. This site is a LOT better than most but even here you see

I have to build two heavy duty stand up rods for a client. We want to use the all graphite type saltwater seat. I'm wondering how strong the hoods on these seats are and are they designed to be used only with those reels that have underneath clamps? Will the graphite hoods on these seats tear out if you use a reel without the underneath clamp and are running something like 25 pounds of drag press

I think you've done it correctly. Having to locate several guides close together on a fast taper blank is not at all unusual. And your spacings sound pretty good to me, without actually having seen your blank under load.
If you put a guide at every 5 inches, it will work, but you'll also probably have more guides on there than you need which will hurt your rods performance maybe.

335. Re: Dale Clemens
Dale Clemens was the most successful rod builder who ever lived. Think about it. He made money off of Clemens Tackle, then started Rodcrafters and made money off of that and then started the seminars and made money off of that. Then he sold it all for profit and retired to Florida!
I don't know if he was a great rod builder or not, but few people have been as successful financially as he was i

336. Re: Forum Features?
Listening to or reading instant messages might involved some legalities. I can't believe any site owner could do that unless they stated somewhere that that feature wasn't necessarily private and that any messages sent could be read by someone other than the person you are sending it to.

I own three Montegue bamboo rods. Two are pier rods and one is a fly rod. All say GENUINE TONKIN right above the handle.
Sometimes you can count the number of guides and figure it out. The better models had more guides and the lesser expensive models had fewer guides.

The Europeans are trying to set standards for lines that use the lb test rating so that nobody can fudge on their ratings and line diameters. As it is now a line that breaks at 50 lbs can be labeld as 12 lb test.

Some in Florida were damaged last year and the year before. Any interest in those?

340. Re: Humidity
I spent nearly 25 years working as a rep for a major paint and coatings company. Most paints and varnishes are not advised to be used in areas or periods of very high humidity. They can and will blush for reasons that I won't bore you with. DON'T USE THEM IN HIGH HUMIDITY AREAS!
Now epoxy is a DIFFERENT animal. A true epoxy anyway. Don't know as much about them but we never had to recommend ag

A mag bass 843 would probably work fine for this since you're using so much weight.

Can you direct me to a photo on the anglers resources site? I can't picture this in my mind.

LOL! You have to forgive me for laughing. Tom needs money to keep this site going but refuses any money from the board users. He won't take it.
On the flip side, we have a group that is happy to take every red cent you offer them and yet they do almost nothing for nobody.
The irony just seemed funny to me.

Believe it or not but some lumber or specialty wood supply stores carry it. Just google them or call around and ask. It's more readily available than you think.

An honest mistake Raymond, an honest mistake.
Tom, no need to worry about the naysayers. This site gets a ton of use and traffic exactly because it's the place where the best variety and greatest amount of rod building information gets shared of anywhere in the rod building world. I think guys can see the obvious quality of what gets presented here.
I see lots of info here on products from

I’m not about to pay $25 just so I can get a “certificate of membership†to something. And the magazine they offer is more of a glorified newsletter. Their conclaves hardly draw anybody and there is a fee associated with those. If it were any good a lot more people would have joined it over the years and the fact that they haven’t seems to me to prove out what most people here have been

Nah no custom rod sales for me anymore. Just a few rods each year for me and the family to use. Still enjoy it but don't build as much as I used to.

I think that the original Dale Clemens Rodcrafters club did pretty well. But that was before the age of things like the internet or Rodmaker. I don't know if it could get off the ground today. Time and technology change things. I cannot see one thing that a paying member to any club gets that anyone else isn't already getting and without having to pay for it. Rodmaker is by subscription. You can

LOL! Chuck still thinks he INVENTED the spiral wrap! What he did do was make it popular. Guys saw his design and many sold it under the name 'Roberts Wrap' and it stuck. He did do a lot to make it more popular. I'm surprised he's still around. I'm surprised I'm still around!
