I made a couple of reel seat inserts in Joe Emig's style, but with Billy V's technique. The brick reel seat is made of walnut with maple veneer. It's made with 60 degree wedges. The grip is made with walnut and maple with brass trim, mounted on a 3S60MLF St Croix blank. I should add it has a super glue finish as well.

I made a couple of web (Samsara style) grips for a friend (two on the right). He provided a couple of Mudhole reel seats that are in their holographic paint. They look very nice; the wood on the two on the right is Walnut, Maple veneer and a crushed turquoise for the center dot. The fly rod grip is going to be for my son, he wants to build a 4wt so he can learn to fly fish. Byron (recipient of th

If you're looking for a light weight reel seat and fore grip this may be the answer. Billy sent me an idea on a light weight reel seat. It's a inside out turning and is hollow in the center. This is a prototype and is unfinished. It needs some work but I kind of like the look of it. Thanks for the idea Billy V.

I just wanted to post a photo of a grip made of Bocote, and Maple. The two axis chevron is done with a herringbone design. The inspiration for this came from Samsara Cues and from several wood turners that I know.

I got a couple of Lamiglas LSJ782 blanks from Putter. They are the first that I have used and I'm very pleased with the Lamiglas blanks. The LSJ782 on the top is a spider web inspired by one of the pool cues of Samsara Cues. The bottom rod is using one of the graphie handle kits from Bob Mc at Custom Tackle. The lower rod combined with Bob's handle and Lami blank is one of the lightest rods I hav

I put together a few handles and made a trade for some blanks. The top is made of walnut, cherry, and maple. The insert is ipe with maple wedding bands. Second from the top is walnut with bloodwood trim. Third from top is Wayne's Ipe with maple eliptical and trim. Forth from the top is Bloodwood with Copano cork. The bottom is maple with a bloodwood elliptical and checkers. The insert is what was

I just thought I'd try to use some old Aluminum that I had laying around. It turns like butter and makes a nice accent ring. The top grip is maple, with bloodwood checkers. The lower grip is bloodwood with maple checkers. The finish on the handles is super glue. The lower rod is one I built on a St Croix flipping stick to try out the durability of CA for a grip finish. I applied the CA on the cor

I thought I would try a Tiger Wrap for the labels on a rod. I think that it's a very nice accent for the rod. Thanks Mr Throop and Colby.

I have one last rod to post with a web design. The fore and aft grips look like cob webs as well. I did Billy V's Black Widow between the split. The blank is a Shikari PP703.5 and the wood is walnut with maple veneer. The fore and aft grips are six segments x seven segments. I almost forgot the web is a take on the Samsara Cues Web pattern.

I thought I'd try the tiger wrap and it turned out well. The picture is a little grainy but I used the top thread to hold the hook keeper and ran a continuous thread under the keeper as well.

I have a couple of rods going to Samsara Cues to thank them for the use of the spider web pattern. The one on the left is White Oak and Blood Wood. The one on the right is Walnut and Maple. If you want to see the original designs they are on www.samsaracues.com once again Jim and Dave Thanks for the ideas. I almost forgot to thank Billy V as well.

After seeing the NPS seats on this photo site I just had to try one. The blank is a 4S70MF that I picked up from Binghams Enterprizes in the close out section. The grip is a Fuji NPS with Walnut trimmed with checkers and corian. I finished this for myself and only hope that I don't sell this one out from under myself. I've been a working on a couple of rods for the guys at Samsara and hope to pos

Grip for a Musky rod made of Curly Maple and Big Leaf Maple Burl with several layers of veneer. The dimensions got away on me and I had to make a musky grip (live and learn) in order to make the cube fit the handle. The basic idea came from a pool cue they do make a great looking grip.

The web is made of maple and dyed black veneer trimmed in corian. The fore and aft grips are walnut, cherry and maple. I'm looking for opinions on weather or not to keep the orange trim. I'm undecided and need an objective opinion so please let me know if you think the orange should stay or go. Thanks Mark.

This is an elliptical reel seat made of Padauk and the split handles are made of Wenge. The Wenge is trimmed with Padauk, Maple veneer, Dyed Black Veneer, and Corian. I'm out of blanks so this is posted with out being mounted, so if any blank manufacturers would like to donate please feel free to do so (LOL). BTW there are no checkers on the handle any where that's what makes this one different.

A pair of Shikari PP703.5 rods. The top rod is Juniper that Stan Grace was good enough to trade to me. The Juniper is light and smells great when turned. The lower rod is Copano Burl with Maple and Walnut checkers trimmed with Burl Maple and Curly Maple.
