Yes. A really good sturgeon spot by me has so much brush right off the bank behind me that casting with an 8’ rod (or in my case a 8’2 or even 10’) is not impossible but rather uncomfortable. As it is I use a slip rig with a 12-18” leader hanging off the end of the rod. So I need 10’ of clearance in all reality to cast with a 8’ rod. But man is the spot worth it.

Hey now guys.
So for LAKE sturgeon I use an ugly stick tiger 7’ for certain applications. I was just looking for a higher end blank. I know it’s not necessary, it’s just something I want.
I have a G Loomis 982c HSR for when I need to cast a longer distance, as I fish from shore. The tiger is for when I cast shorter distances. Reel is a calcutta 400b. I cast 3-5oz but don’t want a broomsti

Thanks for the response guys. My reels are fine but that’s bc I take them off and rinse them down after every other outing.
What do ppl use aluminum for then? Saltwater?

Hey fellas, are these grips tapered in the middle or are they the same diameter all the way through (like a tube)?

Hey now fellas. I’m just curious. My reel seat on my store bought rod are basic Fuji reel seats. Where i fish is very muddy and sandy and when I go to take the reel off I notice sometimes the reel seat seizes up and I can’t loosen the locking ring (I don’t know the technical name). Would an aluminum reel seat fix that?

For walleye my new go to rod is a st croix legend extreme mlxf
For pike I use a GLoomis imx pro 906c swimbait rod, it’s a medium/mod fast
For lake sturgeon I use a Shimano Technium 10’6 medium/mod fast
I do have custom rods being built for me, but at this time this is what I use.

Hey now fellas. I am having a custom river rod built for me. This rod is strictly for fun. Nothing else.
I fish the river by me and found a spot recently that both produces fish and gives me a lot of room to back up before I start hitting the bush.
So just for fun, just for @#$%& and giggles, I am having my rod builder build me a 13’ or 14’ rod. I am looking at the NFC 1405 and 1305. But if

Is it safe to store rods at temperatures that can reach -40c. The usual temp is somewhere between -20 c to -30 c. They would be stored in the garage. I am moving in with my girlfriend and we are trying to figure out where to put them.

You are 100% correct, they are not nearly as big as white sturgeon on the west coast,. However they are still a blast to fish, and it’s cool to hold something that is essentially prehistoric

Hey now fellas. I fish off the bank of the river for lake sturgeon. I currently have a 8’ sturgeon rod from a Shimano and a 8’ NFC being built for me. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a shorter blank (say 7’) that is a medium heavy (or heavy I guess) and can do 4oz no problem. I’d prefer a fast or extra fast tip.
So far all I found was the bushido blank from American Tackle. I don’t ha

So I’m just dying to know. Since you guys all build rods and appreciate craftsmanship, which reel manufacturer is your favourite? Mine is Daiwa. In a very close second Is Shimano. In spinning reels I like the Tatula for finesse and for baitcasters I like the Tatula as well. It’s just a great value.
But I have a Jdm Scorpion DC that I love from Shimano. My favourite type of reel is a round bai

I really really REALLY want a baitcasting rod that will excel in throwing 3/8-5/8 for jigging walleye and throwing some megabass vision oneten’s @ 1/2oz. Oh and I want it a medium light. I’m not asking which blank to get, I’m asking more: off the top of your head can it be done? With the right reel and the right guides etc, I’m sure it can be done? And if so, what guides would you use? Any parti

I think species specific rods aren’t a bad idea. Especially for walleye fisherman. There are certain things bass fisherman look for that walleye done and vice versa.
For example- a bass rod that can do 1/2 and even 5/8 but is a medium light. I don’t see many of those. But walleye rods I do.
(I think it’s the 8500 glx walleye). So when a manufacturer says “hey I made a walleye rod” it’s gonn

Right now with the value of the USD compared to Canadian, I can get a st.croix legend extreme for $500 if I pay with American money in Canada.
Almost makes the warranty aspect worth it. Does Loomis and St. Croix void their warranties if you replace the grips? The GLX blank is sick, as is the NRX. I can only imagine the St. Croix legend extremes are phenomenal too.
I’m very iffy about NFC. I

Hey now fellas, I’m fishing as we speak and am using voice to text so bare with me.
It’s a peaceful morning (6:10am) where I am. I’m fishing for lake sturgeon.
This is for thst walleye build I post about. So I was looking at grips. Basically what I’m wondering is how much of a difference does it genuinely make if I go Fuji or American Tackle. I’m not super picky with reel seats. Does it real

For me it’s like this…I got an NRX +. I spent $835 (Canadian) and I got cork and recoil guides, that I have no idea what they do other than recoil. And as for the handles it’s cork.
So $9 reel seat
I’m guessing $15-20 for the handles
Maybe $100 for guides (I genuinely have no idea)
Add in the cost of paying their employees
Add in the cost of advertising
Add in the cost of basically al

Just for the record I already have an NRX. I just want to see if I can have a better build made for me for cheaper. I do need another rod though and as I have no brand loyalty (I’ve put Daiwa reels on shimano rods lol).

Hey now fellas. I was wondering….how does it work when one matches guides to a reel? I’m not a rod builder, but I still like to know the theory behind it.
So when I have a walleye rod made for me, should I send him my reel?

Hi fellas. Quick question- which commercial rod is the scv blank from st croix most close to? I am having a hard time choosing between st croix and nfc x ray for a walleye build I want to have done for me. I want to have 2 rods made for me. One “medium light” for 1/8 to 1/4 stuff and one “medium” (or medium light depending on whether I go nfc or st croix) to do 1/2 and possibly 5/8.
Thanks
