I've built both the 5-8 and 8-12 version on both I used went 25,20,16,12's to the tip all in Fuji Alconites. Are you building this as an 8&bait heaver or a middle of the rod multi purpose rod?

I agree with Walt on the rod choices. Very few if any 1 piece Heavers being built anymore the advances in construction of 2 pc rods have basically made a 1 pc obsolete, not to mention the costs of having a blank over 8' shipped. Another advantage of the 2 pc is it is easier to transport to and from your destination.

I tried several different lathes and settled on the Rikon. I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a lathe.

Walt The last bottle of 811 I had did the same thing. I ran multiple test wraps packed and packed the threads, burnished them and still had very bad results. I went back to some Brilliance II that I had and haven't had a problem but that is running low, I hope the Threadmaster CP comes out soon. Ed

I use 12's on mine without a problem. I have some customers want a size 16. I don't think you will notice any difference in distance between a 12 and 16 or even a 20. The weed clearance might be an issue but I don't have any problems with it.

I've finished them in the afternoon, take it off the dryer before going to bed and fished it the next day and never had any problems, however on customers rods I wait 2-3 days before I hand the rod over just in case.

Scott, Knowing Red Drum Tackle very well I would say it is probably a Lamiglass as that is what the build on almost all their rods, but you never know if it is something else that they ordered and didn't build.

Billy I used the Titan guides but wanted to stay with titanium on the tip so I used the Fuji tip with it and that is what has some green tint on it, not as bad as your picture so maybe it is taht NY water. lol.

I just checked mine and it does have some green color on it , I can't tell what it is but it was not there when I put it on the rod. The Titan guides look great no corrosion or discoloration. It isn't the NY water this has only been used in the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic.

I think you will find out that the Lami 120-2 rated 4-12 will more than likely max out at 6-7 oz of weight and small bait not what you need for sharks. I've personally seen and used one of the rods Clyde has built with the 2 butts it is a great concept. I just wish the person who worked with Clyde to design this rod would have been able to fish it RIP Russ, but his best friend has put it to goo

I live very close to Lake Anna, most fishing is done from boats some does happen from the banks but the vast majority that is not someones yard is wooded banks or very steep banks so a long rod might not be the ticket. The strippers that are mostly caught are in the 6-12 lb range with some upto or just over 20. I have caught more Largemouth Bass over 8lbs out of the lake than I have Stripers over

speed of your motor can do this too. The finish is trying to run up the guide feet as the rod is turning, but it bunches up around the leg of the guide frame. I found that a slower speed when the finish was thin and hadn't begun to cure yet was better than a fast speed. Others may dissagree but it worked for me, and that is what is best when it comes to applying finish " what works best for

I also want to thank Tom for putting on a great show. The only thing I had a comment about and that is NOT a complaint was the fire alarms going off Saturday night. I know that was out of everybodys control, kinda interesting never been thru one of those before in a hotel. Again this is not a complaint I think everything was great with the show and all stuff associated with it.

Yeah my wife used all the luck on the Lamiglas blank, she picked a nice Ron Arra surf blank, looks like I'll have to sell a few more rods and buy my own kayak. Oh well maybe next year I can change my luck. Billy nice read enjoyed talking to you again.

I built one on the same blank from Mudhole for my friends neice. Cut the rod down to 5' it changed the action but it still fishes great for a 6 year old they can't tell the difference anyway because they don't feel the action before it is cut, so they only know the rod they've got. I used the Halo guides with purple wraps and gold trim and a pink and purple marble job on it looks great. That rod

Is it a 2 piece blank? if so you can always wrap as conventional at first then all you may have to do is add a bumper guide and flip the tip section over. I know this also depends on how the layout works out. What blank are you using. A squidder is also a hard reel to learn on but it can be done. good luck Ed

no need to thin threadmaster or any finish for that reason and no need for acetone in rodbuilding denatured alcohol is the strongest solvent you need. Thinning finishes can effect the finish in adverse ways. Any of the finishes even high builds can be applied as thin as needed or you can use permagloss. Ed

Thanks for checking on that for me Jay. I liked the pictures of the rods especially the spiral rollers on the stand up I may have to ask you a few questions about those when I build my stand up rod this winter. Thanks again Ed

I've used hardloys for braid for years have not had any problems. We've caught hundreds of stripers up to 41 lbs, flounder to 7 lbs, cobia to 55 lbs and no guides show any sign of wear. I've used braid from 20# to 65# also have used Amtak titans and Forecast Zirconia rings with no problems. I cannot understand why someone would limit themselves and their customers to 2 types of guides. Ed

Thanks Jay He is set in his ways. I will check out the photos. I have already told him to get some mate savers and keep on the belts. I would appreciate you checking if it will fit I can do it but I've got to wait for him to get back from the boat this weekend to do it and I am hoping to order before then. Thanks again Ed

Tom, Thanks for the reply the 50 is a wide 80 is standard width my main concern is the foot of the reel fitting the reel seat. For some reason I'm thinking the 80's have wider foot on the reel but I don't have them here at this time to check it out. Thanks Ed Kindervater

I have a customer that wants a stand up rod built in the 50-80 lb class. What he wants is one rod that he can use with 2 different reels depending on what he is targeting. One reel as a Tiagra 50 the other a Tiagra 80 and he wants to use a short curved unibutt my question is will the Tiagra 80 fit a UB2 unibutt or do you have to go to the UB4? He is set in his mind about what he wants to do pe

I did a test stick with treadmaster and two others all were white wraps with half of each wrap covered with aluminum foil the other half left exposed set out in the sun from Feb until middle of July. Threadmaster had very faint yellowing, LS had moderate amounts and Aftcote was very yellowed. I also have had no problems with removing thread and the finish a little heat and it comes off. I'll tr
