When I had a little business making a custom product I preferred email communication with my customers.
For one thing it allowed me to choose when I’d be interrupted from my work.
For another it gave me a record of discussion and requests.
When I worked for a major paint mfg I did time as the supervisor of the email response team. We trained our people to respond to about 60 email per person p

Check out what is available to sewers.
A quick search on Amazon returned covered boxes as well as a dizzying variety of wall mount and table top racks.

33. Email contact
I have recently sent emails to three different manufacturers or stores with questions about their products. Only one, Mudhole, has given me an answer. The other two have probably lost sales due to their lack of response. This also applies to future sales since I now have doubts about their backup of their products.
If I may make a suggestion, if a company doesn’t plan to answer emails, they shou

Thank you, gentlemen for your responses.
Derick, I thought of that but I want a faster action than any fly rod that I am familiar with.
Mark, I’ll drop him an email. I am currently confined to bed recovering from cancer treatment. Among other drawbacks the treatment has affected my voice. I doubt Rick would appreciate a mumbled, impossible to understand phone call. But I can type, so long a

Does anyone know of a fiberglass rod blank for salmon/steelhead use? Ideal would be a 2 piece, 9-10 ft, 8-10 lb line.
I’ve got an idea for a light Southern California surf rod, spiral wrapped, wearing an old school Penn. Jr. Squidder #146.
All I can find is graphite blanks. Nothing against graphite, I just think this would be fun to make in ‘glass.
Thanks!

Reading the responses to this thread I get the idea that rod spine is of little importance to many custom rod builders. If this is the case, why is so much effort spent on teaching people how to find the spine and what to do with it? There is tons of information out there from blank manufactures, rod building supply outfits, and individuals on how to find the spine. Is all this effort wasted or i

Thank you for this interesting discussion. I built my first rod, a Sabre 196-7, almost 50 years ago, still have it. We set guides the opposite of Gary Loomis’ advice. Things change as we learn more. I’m looking forward to trying new stuff as I turn back to rod wrapping.

Congratulations!
I used to make and sell custom wood arrows for traditional archery. All my work was done with paint and stain. When someone asked me what vinyl wraps I used... I stood a little straighter.

Thank you for the replies, this has been really interesting.
To be sure I know the reference, if I hold a bare blank by the tip, support it with my other hand a ways down the blank, and lift it into the air, the blank will rotate to a certain orientation. Is this the strong side or the soft side that is facing up?

Wait...you mean... something I saw on the internet is wrong?!
O, woe is me.
Seriously, you’re right when I slow down and think about it.

42. Spine Confusion
I just saw a video, , where a fellow explained rod spine as where the layers of graphite (young fellow, never heard of fiberglass) overlap as the material is rolled on the mandrel. Where the end of the material acts with the beginning of the material to create a stronger side, thus forming the spine. He further explains how the spine must be placed as the rod bends so the rod doesn’t twist under

Seeing as how I am a newbie to turning, besides sandpaper is there any particular tool recommendation for shaping cork and foam grips?

I recently got a Hirsh rig on an @#$%& forum for just this purpose but haven’t used it yet. I wish I’d known of the Grizzly option, it looks better.
