All,
I've been using the nail knot method for making trim bands on the guide wraps. They're not too hard to do and pretty quick but I can't seem to get a nice clean look with them. I get little nibs near the knot because I'm having difficulty getting a clean cut with the metallic thread. My razor blade is new but I still have the same problem. What method do you guys use to get a nice clean cu

Eric,
Where did you end up purchasing these SeaGuides at?
Thanks,

I do this for all of the single foot guides that are slightly bent upwards (fuji model L). I don't do the locking wrap on the KB or KT style guides because I can't get the wrap tightly wrapped underneath the guide eye.

Fred,
I purchased the flex coat power wrapper/finishing machine. I've really liked it thus far. They made a plastic piece that "locks" the rod in the slip chuck so you can get your guides aligned correctly. Not sure what your budget is but I think it's well worth the money. I'd give them a call. I'm not affiliated with them, just a satisfied customer.
Take care

You could try and see if Decal Connection has done anything like that before, they might be able to make a decal for you. I'm not associated with them, I just like them and their product.

Roger,
Thank you for the in depth response! I didn't thinking about rotating counter clockwise to keep the file from digging into the Arbor. I will try what you recommended on my next build, thank you!

Hello all,
I've recently purchased the AT Aero reel seats and really like using them. For some reason I've found that I can't seem to ream the reel seat arbor concentrically, even by hand. What kind of method do you guys use to ream these ergonomic style reel seats?
Thanks!

Ray and Norm - I bet you're right with a nylon navy blue thread. I think I'll give that a go! Thank you!
Phil - I honestly figured they'd never get back to me and that one of you guys have probably ran across this same color before. I did reach out to them anyways so we'll see what they say.

Hello fellow rod builders,
A customer has given me a shimano slx that needs a new guide on it and I've been having some difficulty trying to match the thread color. I tried a few of the blue fuji threads (I bought NOCP so that could have been my mistake there) and they're not quite as dark as the thread wraps on the rod are. The top thread in the picture is #008 Dark blue and the bottom is #00

Mark,
Thanks for posting the results of this very interesting experiment. Although not easily quantifiable, did you notice any difference in the effort used to cast with each type of system? Also, did you notice any difference between the balance and weight of each rod like Tom alluded to? Great looking fishing rods as well!

44. Shaping EVA
Hello all,
I've run into a slight problem with making EVA grips. This is the 1st time I've tried to make EVA grips (I purchased a block of EVA from MH). I tried to use the same technique I use when shaping cork grips which is using a drill as a small lathe with some varying grits in sand paper but the EVA looked like it was melting and not getting any smaller in size. What kind of tools to do yo

When you setup your guides, do you place the base of the guide (right where it turns up to the ring) or the outside face of the ring on the measurement GPS suggests?

Hello all,
I'm trying out the KR Guide System for the first time and I've noticed something when using the GPS for KR Guides. I don't seem to have a selection for 40lb braid which is what the customer for will be using with this rod. The options that GPS gives are 20H, 10H, and 5.5M for 15-20lb braid (the largest I could select). If I selected 10-14lb mono (closest line size diameter to what th
