I'm wrapping the dowel with all the colors of thread I currently have so I can use it as a reference to see final colors. Plus I can show it to people who want rods built so they can pick.

I'm looking for alternatives since it's a fairly large diameter dowel and rod epoxy is not cheap. If I can achieve the same look by using cheaper polyurethane instead of rod epoxy then I'm going that route. I don't care if the finish isn't as thick as rod epoxy, I just want the finished colors and hues to be correct

I'm in the process of making a thread swatch on a painted dowel rod. Are they any alternatives to using epoxy?

I tie 550 or slightly smaller cord around a spinning reel foot. Usually you need pliers to untie it but you don't have to deal with a bulky clip

Thanks for the replies. The walleye rod is what my friend wants. I personally want a rod or two from there so a 3rd rod gets me a bigger discount. He will most likely use it in rivers in the southwest PA region most of the year and on lake Erie during the spring drift bite

I'm looking to take advantage of the NFC sale and my friend wants a medium power 6'6" to 7" spinning rod for walleye. He will mostly use it for jigging soft plastics probably with 1/8 to 1/4oz jig heads. I originally was looking at the x-ray sj 703 and the x-ray sb 683. I wanted to come back to him with some cheaper options though. I also am eyeing up the FW 704. Any thoughts/opini

Any reason why Batson hasn't put any info about these on the rainshadow website?

I believe that made in USA rods can have the blanks made overseas and finished here and still be labeled made in USA.

Ha it's okay, thank you for the link to the other thread. It looks like regular rod tip adhesive gets the win.

I'm replacing the rod tips on a few of my friends trolling rods with roller tips. Is there a specific adhesive to use? I planned on using regular rod tip adhesive, then wrapping/epoxying it on there. Thanks!

Does anyone have pictures of rods you built with this rod color? I'm having trouble finding a color scheme/design that goes with it. I'm toying with something like this: updated links to work

I just bought an IMMC73MLF for senkos and the same situations apply to me. I'm also building it as a spinning rod. They do list the application as Topwater/Senkos/Light casting applications/Smaller spinnerbaits. Unfortunately I am waiting on winding checks to have it finished so I don't have any feedback to give just yet.

Mark, what frame/ring do you like with the Fuji's?

I use the same rattle cork on a ML rod. I feel like I do better with metal beads over plastic beads. The weighted plastic shrimp are 1/4:ounce as well. I only get to go to the Outer Banks once a year so I really don't want to spend a decent amount of money on a blank That will not be used often.

Thanks for the info. I'm really just looking at what everyone uses. Every manufacturer seems to have multiple popping blanks. I do like the idea of a mod-f action so I can use some top water plugs. Any other good baits to use? I never run deviated from the plastic shrimp since it works for me but honestly I don't have anything to compare it to.

What's everyone's favorite rod and setup for popping corks for sea trout and redfish? I have limited experience, but I personally like the Z-Man EZ pre-rigged shrimp. I suppose my realistic target fish size would be 5lbs.

Sorry I know this is off-topic, but I read that Pflueger is discontinuing all their reels above $100. But it seems all their reels online are OOS or clearanced out on multiple retailer websites. Anybody have any info? Thanks

NFC is having a great sale so they're an option now. I was looking at the FW 662-2(IM).

I originally thought about trimming a blank down. I started to lean against due to it being a multiple piece blank and that may ruin the action of the rod due to the ferrules being in other places than the original design. I've looked at Phenix but they're out of my price range. There's nothing wrong with MHX, but I've built a few of those and wanted to try something new. There's lots of

I looked at the Immortal blanks but I forgot to state that it has to be a 2+ piece rod since it will be transported in a backpack or on a a bicycle frame. I may make a 1 piece rod in the future though

Oh thank you! I probably would jump on that but I feel 5'6" is too short. Unfortunately the 6' blank is sold out

It's 6'8", not 68". I made the same assumption at first until I started to really look at the specs.

I'm looking to build a small to medium stream rod to either use salmon eggs or use rooster tails. I'm debating between the Revelation REVS68UL-2SB or the Rainshadow SP781-2. I was leaning towards the Revelation but I'm concerned it may be too light to throw spinnerbaits. The next step up is the REVS68ML but I think that may be detrimental to the sensitivity of floating eggs.
