I have decided to re-tie 2 factory spinning rods to start. I am doing one in microwave and the other with the kr concept. Unfortunately I have to wait some more as my microwave set came in with a damaged running guide and I dont have any extras built up yet.

32. Re: Older rods
Yes I plan to use them fishing, but due to the fact they are pretty inexpensive rods to begin with I am also going to use them for practice

I have 8 lb mono on my lews and it casts Texas rig plastic worm with 1/8 oz weight and 7.5" worm better than any of my factory baitcaster setups will. Now that I am learning more about the kr concept I am anxious to try some light braid on the lews. I havent put braid on a spinning rod in years due to wind knots in the past

Thank you guys for your input. I took a closer look at my factory built spinning rods and have decided to try the Fuji kr concept. I have a 6'6" medium fast lews from Walmart that resembles the kr concept that really out performs a halo daylight series 7' medium fast with cone of flight guide setup.

I want to thank everyone for their input. I have learned more in the past week or so about building and rebuilding rods than my entire life. Again I truly appreciate the openness and willingness to share your tricks and procedures in this craft.

36. Re: Older rods
I am planning on upgrading them while I am at it. Thinking about running Fuji kr concept and see how I like it while getting my feet wet with the micro guides. If I learn with them it wont be a big deal to adjust later.

I am sure of the current finish, they are fiberglass/graphite composite.

40. Older rods
I have some older rods that have been beat up over the years. What can be used to safely refinish these back to their original luster?

I am getting ready to build my first spinning rod. I have seen several posts here about the Fuji kr concept guide train, has anyone tried the microwave guide train? Just curious and exploring all possibilities here.

43. Paracord grip
All of my bigger rods have paracord grips. How are these attached? I would assume the epoxy is put on the blank then the cord wrapped on the still soft epoxy but I am not certain.

Thank you for your responses. I hope this turns into an addiction that will eventually pay for itself.

45. Wrapping thread
Brand new to rod building. From reading your posts I have learned a lot about guides and spacing and want to say thank you for sharing your knowledge. Now my question, I am mostly going to be building bass rods with a few catfish. How do I determine what thread size to use?
