Do inserts reduce a blank thru seats sensitivity? Also do most use a tape arbor with them.

Made a build last night and noticed the red bottle of Prokote has turned a darker yellow. Luckily we were coating yellow thread. I have read on here that the shelf life is about 6 months but we have only had this bottle about 3 months. Our garage where we do our work gets quite warm here in the deep South as we don't run the air all the time. Does heat accelerate the breakdown?

My son and I are ready to step to our next level of rod building. We are going to attemp at making grips. What are your recommendations for an entry level lathe and what size do you recommend. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

After reading everyone's views I have decided to try a carbon fiber grip on a 6'6" high mod worm rod. My question, do the ready made CFX grips from Mud Hole need a sealer on them or are they ready to go out of the package?

Being newbies to the hobby and having and having no friends who share the intrest, we glean most informative questions from this forum. I know people like different grips for different applications. But if you had to choose one overall grip material what would it be and why?

Norman, is there any casting reel seats that the SK2 Winn Grips fit? I am assuming the tenon is slightly different.

Curious to hear about the singing issues with Minimas. Last build on a 6'6 we used all Minimas including tip top. My hearing is not great but I have not detected anything unusual.

Anyone know the closest matching Pro Wrap color for the green on MHX Winn grips?

Last casting build we used Fuji ACS trigger seats. Thinking of trying a low profile seat next. Any pros and cons between the two and are you actually able to feel the difference of the two?

Do most builders after their blank arrives locate the components and measure then re-order the winding checks? Also is rubber/vinyl or the aluminum checks preferred by most.Beginner rod builder on 3rd rod.

My 17 year old son just finished his first build after attending the Mud Hole class (which by the way was exellent). He did a great job with the only cosmetic flaws were around the winding checks. He did a split grip with no foregrip with 3 rubber winding checks at transition points. It looked pretty good after cleanup but when the epoxy dried it took on a shiny appearance around the slight crack
