Watching some of the mudhole videos and reading a bit, many say slide it down til it stops then epoxy from that point down and firmly push the grip down. To me it's much easier to ream the grip so it fits snug......am I missing something here?

Oh I forgot to ask....what about the tip...does it typically match the runner size? Reason I ask is because the model I need to match has a 6 as smallest size. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Dave...building this for someone else and he doesn't want the micros...I thought a 5 may be too small...just don't have a good feel for the sizes yet.

Building a 7'2" MF rod on an Immortal blank. Want to use the RV Stripper which is a size 6, no micro guides on this build.....what should the rest of the train be? I was thinking this... RV6 - 6 - 6 - 5.5 - 5.5 - 5.5 - 5.5 - 5.5 - 5.5 - 5.5 What do you think?

I know this cam up in a recent post but I didn't want to derail that one.....has anyone found success with this tool? Seems to me it is almost impossible to get it straight down the blank.

Ok so first off....thanks to all that chimed in on some of my last topics. I am very happy with my first build but did learn a few things along the way. Lessons -take your time, there is NO reason to rush (guess I was just excited to see the finished product) -prepare your all your guides on the grinder first instead of one at a time before you wrap -make certain there is enough overwraps

Here is how the spacing ended up, starting from the top.... 3 7/8, 2 1/2, 2 3/8, 2 1/2, 2 1/2, 3, 3, 3 7/8, 5 7/8, 7 1/8, 12 first guide from the but is 21" from the end of the seat. Guide sizing from the butt..... 8, 6, 6, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4 ,4, 4.5 tip top. It was mentioned that the first couple guide affect the casting most....how so? Also my first guide is no different tha

Well I am a noob but as I was doing my test I tried the latex tube, both on the rod and using it as a tie, and I tried tape both I didn't like. I went to the garage and pulled out 4" small tie wraps and loved them....I started with the spacing a little wider than I thought it needed so I could move and tighten if I had to. When I was done I took a razor and cut through them using the guide

I will try again I may not have had my first guide from the tIP correctly spaced...it was 2 1/2 from the tip. Maybe I will accept some of the line touching the blank. For comparison I static tested my mojo XF rod....the line was under the blank on several of the guide spaces....lol

I'm setting up my rod with micro guides.....I'm doing the test to position the guides and it looks like I am going to wind up with 13 guides plus tip to keep the line off the blank....7' MHXF. Is that normal? Seems like a lot of guides.

I have several 7' rods I use for plastics as well....mostly when I "cast" them. I use my current 6'6" most of the day for underhand pitching. These were my option to get me what I want.... St.Croix SCIII... $110 Rainshadow Revelation... $67 Rodgeeks Carbon 4... $115

Thanks for the reply Tom......the 6'8"/6'9" is the length I want to stay with. So my goal is to replace my St. Croix mojo's which treated me well for the years I've had them....I started with the intent on using the SCIII blanks which are right around $100. I don't want to go too much higher for a blank, while the North Fork, Eternities are nice, I'm not looking to spend that much.

Using it for jigs and creatures....yeah thinking of not cutting the Immortal.....I'm annoyed though, ready to spend the money but don't have what I need. Oh and the 7'2" MHF has a larger button than the 7'3" HXF
