i prefer the 3.5" grip with the 2.5" fighting butt in the winn split grips. i wish they had more colors and every color in every part. ive had good luck with the fuji reel seats. well made. you will like the revelation crankbait blank. im finishing up one for myself right now.

i forgot about the citrus degreaser / solvent we have at work. i will give it a try. i am well aware of the hazards of acetone, and have used it in the past for other projects . i was more concerned with damaging the blank with acetone. thanks for everyones help !

ive got an older rod that i decided to redo. when removing all of the old epoxy, i discovered that a large section of what i thought was a label ( fairly easy to remove ) was instead paint. can acetone be used to remove the paint without damaging the blank ?

i recently found a use for excess epoxy….spinner blades with realistic scale imprints etc always seem to wear off quickly , unfortunately . i took one and brushed it with flexcoat the other day, hit it with the heat gun, and brushed off the extra 'drip'. i fished all day with it last weekend and had zero wearing of the usually fragile willowleaf blade print . so far so good.

i am one of the new builders…i had a custom rod made for me back in 1981( flippin stick that i still have ) . a fishing buddy of mine made some rods for me a few years back, and i was curious as to how it was done. after having made my own plastic worms and spinnerbaits for years, i figured it was time to try my hand at building a few rods for myself. big mistake ! now im addicted to it ! LOL i

i use the filament / shipping tape also. zero stretch, reel stays put. i use colored athletic trainers tape ( mildy sticky cloth tape ) for building the grip over the reel. comes in lots of colors too. the cloth grip wont get hot in the Fl sun either. one thing, the shipping tape is very adhesive, f you plan on swapping reels on a semi regular basis, i would 'back wrap' ( sticky side up ) where t

ive reamed a couple of the winn grip fighting butts ( 2.5" ) simply using a steel drill bit and carefully reaming the center to allow it to slip tightly over the blank, stepping up in size slowly as to not overdo it. with a slightly undersized bit you are able to ream the rear of the grip without enlarging the front too much, foam is very forgiving. just be careful with a spinning drill bit

many thanks tom. as a rookie rodbuilder, this site is a wealth of information for me, even if a bunch of it is over my head at this point.

dobyns dx765 flip 1pc. 12-25#line, 1/4 -2 oz, med /hvy , fast action is whats listed on the label. light as a feather and strong as an ox, with good tip action for lighter flipping weights. perfect fliping stick imo. price range ? please remember that i won this rod in a contest, free to me . i have silk purse tastes on a sows ear budget. LOL this flipping stick is the highest end rod that

aye, theres the rub. evidently the dx 765 flip has been recently discontinued. sigh. i suppose the 769 would be close. not a fan of an 8' flipping blank, although some are. ive got a 7'6"mhx blank that a buddy of mine made for me, and its great, but not as powerful and light as the dobyns . i know the dobyns is probably a higher modulus blank, as it is their top of the line blank. i need the

if you center the handle where the reel is going to go, you probably wont need all 11" of that pre made tennessee handle. fyi the best way ive found to install a reel on a tennessee grip is to back wrap( sticky side up ) electrical tape to hold the reel in place, align the reel, then secure in place ( sticky side down ) with 3/4" shipping tape ( the stuff with the fibers in it- zero s

as a rookie rodbuilder, i know nothing about spiral wrapped guides. but i have built two rods, spinning and casting, with the airwave guides, and have been very pleased with the performance of the guides. better distance, less 'rod slap' on the spinning rod. better distance on the casting model as well. i did a direct comparison of the airwave to ceramic guides using two identical spinning blanks

i made one out of a grill rotisserie motor from lowes. not a high ( 30 ) rpm by any means, but it gets the job done.
