Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has used a North Fork ?HS 821-1 (HM) for a walleye rod. I asked them and they recommended the HS series in the salmon steel head category. I will be using it for pulling spinners with bottom bouncers ranging from one ounce up to two ounces if needed. It says this will handle up to 4 ounces so I was wondering if I should go down a size also. Any information w

Hi guys I have been working on some ice rods and I am trying to figure out a way to put a fly guide on the end for the tip top on a noodle rod with a very soft tip. I was thinking of leaving about of a quarter inch past the guide so I had something to hold onto while wrapping then cutting the extra off. Does anyone have any other ideas I could try. Thanks Justin

I am still fairly new to this. I was wondering what the benefits of having a variable speed dryer were. I was thinking of getting another dryer and was trying to decide if I should get one of these. Thanks Justin

Hi guys I am going to build a rod for a friend of mine that is a Packers fan. I was wondering if anyone knows what thread color the green was. I was also looking for the Yellow also. I was going to use gold but I think the yellow would be better. I was thinking either in Pac Bay or Pro Wrap but I am open to other brands as well. Thanks for the help. Justin

I've been using the U40 for awhile now and I like it. It seems to bring the color of the cork out real nice.

I was also wondering if there is an advantage with a 7'6" rod over a 7' rod? The longest rod I have is 6'6" as my boat isn't that big. I would be willing to go to a longer rod if I knew there was an advantage with longer rods. Thanks Justin

Hi guys, I am thinking its about time I build my self a new walleye rod, I was wondering which blanks would be good for using bottom bouncers and Lindy rigs. I was thinking of trying Rainshadow blanks or an MHX, but I am open to suggestions. Just looking for something to make a good rod but not break the bank either. Thanks Justin

Hi guys while fixing my handle I broke it brought to mind what kind of glue are you using to glue cork rings together. I have been using a combo of either Pro Glu or Pro Paste and I like the results but I was just wondering if there was something else out there that would work as well. Does anyone use the Tite Bond 3 wood glue? Just courious as to what everyone is using for glue. Thanks Justin

I thought I would give an update on my broken handle. I finished reaming it to so it would fit the blank( It was easier since it wans in two 3 inch pieces) then I put it back on the mandrel and put it back in my drill press. I have one of those vertical attachments for my drill press. I then took a razor blade to it while it what spinning and cut out the broken part. Then I replaced the broken

Chris this was on a grip that I sanded down to far and wont fit the butt cap so I practiced on this one but I think I might try to glue it together and use it on one of my personal rods.

Here is a link to a picture of the crack. Thanks for the tips guys, I think I had my drill in forward and not reverse, I was going slow but I did feel it torque a couple times I bet that's when it broke. I am going to try these tips on the next handle. I have on still clamped up yet. Thanks Justin

Hi guys I have a problem I would like some help with. I put a cork handle together on a mandrel, got it all sanded down nice and ready to ream to fit the rod. While I was reaming the cork handle cracked in two. I started with the smallest reamer I had and was working my way up and I was on the last sized reamer when it cracked. I had another handle that I messed up earlier so I figured I woul

Thanks Norm. I had not seen that video before and now I understand this way of doing things a lot better. So my plan is for the ultra light rod is to use the 16,8,5M guides for the reduction along with the size 4F runners that you suggested before with a matching tip top. So for the walleye rod that I am going build as well that is a MHX SJ812-W | 6-12 lb. | Fast Action | Medium-Light

I talked to my brother and he decided he wanted to add another rod for walleye fishing for his fund raiser. I am getting 6'9" medium lite blank and I was thinking of using the Pac Bay Single Foot Minima Guides Model SV guides for this rod. My question is what size guides do I use? Do I start with a size 30 sv25sv and 20sv then go to a smaller size for some runners like Minima Fly & Runn

I have not built an ultra light rod yet so I need a little advice for the guide sizes to use. I am using a white MHX 6'6" ultra light blank, with spinning guides, I am not providing a real for the rod so I am not sure how big to start and end with. I am planning on u

Thanks Tom I will have to go back and do some more prep to my guides. Thanks Roger, I will have to make one of these setups that you made that's a neat idea. I forgot to mention that I am using a power wrapper but I am still getting used to it yet . I just got it a few months ago. It is easier than trying to hand wrap small blanks. I did some practicing last night and its getting better.

I am trying to wrap wire guides to a ice fishing rod for the first time. I a having trouble with gaps in the thread when I get to the guide that I cant get rid of. As I get closer to the tip the guide is wider than the blanks and I get the gaps. It isn't as noticeable on the other end where the guide and the blank are the same size. I am using size A thread. So do I need to use a bigger size t

Dave I was curious about the rod in pic number two. I was wondering why you did the guides in this type of layout. Is there an advantage to it or is it just a personal preference. I have never tried this layout before. Thanks Justin

Thanks Roger this gives me a better idea on what to do as far as size. I have a few more questions that popped into my head. How long of a handle would you use on say a 45 inch rod and would you use a reel seat. I guess I like the idea of a reel seat but that's my preference. Thanks Justin
