I am getting ready to build a heavy duty casting rod for a family member who will be using it to pitch football jigs and general plastics for bass, he would like the rod built on the St. Croix 5C74HF blank. I have limited experience building casting rods so would appreciate input on the guide train. I will be providing him an option for Fuji Tozite and Fuji Alconite, both titanium, and let him

RSPG for me although I believe the RSF would work just fine as well and may be a tad lighter.

I believe St. Croix is using something similar to the KR Concept with their new Legend Elite series of rods. Looks like they have the KR Torzite guides on them as well.

Spencer makes a good point. I always use a Fuji Titanium tip top and not the Recoil one.

I've used them on many builds and haven't had a single person mention they are noisy, customers use a combination of braid and mono. I have one on a personal rod and can't say I have noticed much noise either (I use Suffix 832 6lb or Nanofil 8lb). I personally like them a lot, although I'd venture to say a rod with Torzites or similar would likely cast a little better.

X2 with hot water. Works great and is very simple. I've also used my space heater but have found the water warms the epoxy more evenly.

Does anyone have a listing of guide weights for Fuji SiC vs Torzite in titanium frame? Specifically I am looking at KL-H, KB and KT. I am ultimately looking to compare these weights to REC Recoil guides which I have been using on my rod builds recently.
Thanks!

St. Croix SCV66ML. Perfect for light line and finesse jigging but it can also handle some heavier jigs up to 3/8 or a tad heavier if needed. This rod excels at 1/8 - 1/4 in my mind.

2 for me. I lay my first coat on thick to make sure everything get saturated then go back and pull off extra finish, let it dry and then apply a final coat once it's dried. This way I can cut off any fuzzies or imperfections that I may have created...still learning!

I can't be certain, but after speaking wit Don it would appear it's most likely a stripped gear.

Steve - it looks like that's how I will need to do it. Problem is this is a side hobby for me so I just need to find time to babysit it for a couple hours.

Chuck - yes that is what's happening. It doesn't do it when there is no drive belt attached, but when I attach a drive belt it starts doing it.

I have a Amerixan Tackle wrapper/dryer combo and the motor for the dryer is misfunctioning. When I spot the belt to it it keeps clicking back and forth between clockwise and counterclockwise, is there a way to fix it? I know the motors are cheap, it's the shipping that crushes me to get it from my supplier. It is the AmTac 7.5/9 RPM 3.8W motor. If it isn't possible to fix, any recommendations

Those look reat nice Jim. How is the sensitivity of the grip in comparison with cork?
Forum: rodboard 8 years ago
Nate Nelson
Bill - thanks again for the advice on this, I put some water in our tea kettle and let the steam flow right onto the cork as I spun it. It appears it took most of the dent out, I'm going to let it rest a bit and do it one more time.
Roger - thanks for the tip, this is the first time this has happened to me and I'm pretty sure I put the band on too tight. I'll definitely use the blue tape nex

I just pulled a rod off the dryer and much to my dismay I noticed that the my chuck left some dents where I'd wrapped a small rubber band on to prevent slippage in the chuck. Are there any tricks for removing this? It's the rear grip on a split grip so it's be hard to sand.

Maybe try dark pink on bottom with white or silver with the pink you're already using on top.

Thanks guys. Does Permagloss darken non threads like a standard finish coat?

Would this work? I just ordered some and am looking for an excuse to use it. Would it be a good replacement for my standard 2 thin coats of FlexCoat?

I built this rod earlier in the year with Recoil guides (Fuji SiC tip) and used 7 guides+tip down to size 6 for runners. If I was to do it again I would add one guide as there are a coupe flat spots that could be eliminated.
