31. Re: mandrels
back when i had my full size lathe i had a set of those from grizzly. need to dig thru piles of "stuff" to see if i can find em. i'm too stove up now to have a full size wood turning lathe but my midi does everything i want. but i do miss the longer bed length for sure.

roger.....your response caused me to have one of those "why didn't i think of that" moments! thanks! clarify the center point drill bit in the tailstock for me though if you would. w/out a hole existing in the rod already i would think getting the drill point exactly in the center would be impossible and cause the mandrel to wobble. thanks.

34. mandrels
i have the complete set of turning mandrels from mudhole but find myself occassionally needing off size (diameter) ones. yes, i enlarge the OD using tape when necessary but life would be a lot simpler using closer to correct size mandrels. also theirs are too long for my short bed lathe and i have had to cut them to length. if anyone had a metal lathe and makes mandrels that won't break the bank

i build 25-50 rods a year on average, using cork and wood for the grips. cork seal on the cork and BLO on the wood. my wifes rods grips kept needing refinishing due to heavy use etc (read neglect) so at her suggestion i applied a wrap finish to her grips and she loves the shine and bling. to me it looks like someone forgot to take the shrink wrap off the handle when bought at walmart. showed it

Devcon is also great used as a rifle glass bedding compound in the recoil lug area. as Tom stated, JB weld is simply a gap filler. lots of people (including myself) have found that out the hard way. they should change the name from "weld" to " temporarily stick".

hi guys. I have a favorite uncle that is very close to me. he is 97 and in hospice, was an avid fisherman all his life. I want to send the family a rod I built to be placed in his casket IF they agree. I want to sign etc the rod and coat that before I send it to the family (his kids, my cousins). the rod is a light spinning rod, several years old, never used, my "flagship" rod. I sell a
