Scott, I agree. Starting off in the middle of the diamond looks like it will give the overall wrap the best look. Thank you.

Ellis, Thank you for the information. It sounds like a good technique. I used NCP thread. Do you know if CP will cause this type of thread to loosen? Also which CP do you use and how many coats do you apply?

Mick, thank you for the information. Where do you normally start the wrap? It looks like threw the center of a diamond would be a good starting point.

I just finished my first butt wrap. It’s a traditional diamond wrap on an ultra light spinning rod (it’s only the second rod I’ve built). I’ve read a bunch of posting on tying off wraps which contain under wraps (including a good step-by-step article posted by Billy Vivona) but I didn’t come across any which discussed tying off without an under wrap. Will the same technique work for bot

An equal mixture of white vinegar and water might work to remove the mineral deposits. This mixture normally works great on removing calcium deposits if the build up is soaked in the solution for awhile.

You also might want to check your local craft/hobby store. Most offer adhesives that are made specifically for Styrofoam.

I strongly agree that we should be supporting the sponsors of this forum. Without them this excellent resource may not be possible. However, from a newbie stand point, it takes a lot of time to search through their links and find what you're looking for. It might help if the links were broken into different categories.

I'm also a newbie. I've built two rod so far, both of which have been with Cabela's blanks. Since their blanks are fairly inexpensive it seems like a great way to build your skill set before move onto more expensive rod blanks.

I'm in the process of build my first rod (medium weight spinning rod). I'm not very happy with the job I did while epoxy coating the guide wraps. Is it okay to lightly sand the coating and apply another coating?
