This is the 3rd winter of my rod building hobby, this winter I'm attempting fade decorative wraps and thought I'd customize the carriage for my power wrapper. I purchased a crb hand wrapper and modified it to accept 6 spools of thread, my idea is that instead of constantly moving the rod supports for the stock carriage as I move down the rod, I just move the whole wrapper platform over around the

I have a power wrapper as well as a lathe, a good lathe with variable speed makes making handles so much easier, doesn't wear out the wrapper, and keeps all the dust away from your wrapper. Bought a Rikon 70-220VSR last year and really like it, hadn't used a wood lathe since high school some 50 yrs. ago. A good chuck and the accessories already mentioned as well as a sharpening system for your

I'm going to attempt some cored wood grips this winter and being Canadian don't have easy access to that volume, what size bit would you bore with for a handle min size 1", I was thinking 5/8" but you seem to be indicating larger? I will be using a lathe.

Oops I meant to say that I still wanted the motor on my left due to the configuration of my room and it wouldn't work.

It has been a while since I tried it but as I recall, I wanted the motor on the right end too, but since the extrusion isn't symmetrical the motor is offset and will not line up with the rod supports.

Reversing the wrapper bed was an idea I had last winter, after taking everything apart I found that the extrusion for the motor mount unfortunately was not bisymmetrical and could not be mounted in the reverse position, so unless you're up to doing a major modification it won't work, good idea though.

You could but it would require a little more advanced skill to isolate your bitmap without a background, easier way to do it is design an object that represents the part ie the grips with the same color and shape.

First post here for me, wish to thank all for the great info, started making a few rods this winter. I'm in the sign business and it seemed a natural for me to first design the rods I am making on the computer, all you need is a vector based graphics program like Corel (likely can pick up an early version cheap) and a little practice, you could design certain elements that you will be using frequ
