Haven't built a rod for many, many years and the new "3D" dec wraps are new to me and look very interesting - if not complicated. I have a Lamiglass steelhead blank with a diameter in front of the fore grip of .434/~11mm. Looked at Billy Vivona's incredible designs but he tells me the wraps like the 3D Iron Cross/Star, as done by Ken MacNeilly, were on a blank with a 22mm diameter. I

A month ago I ordered some guides from a supplier who says he hasn't received them from Fuji. I need them badly to begin a project. Does anyone know where I can get: 9 ea, Fuji TKTAG6 guides and 1 ea. Fuji TFAT6 tip?

Thanks everyone for your input. I have two concerns: 1. the idea of line flow through micros - not having a larger tip ring than the running guide rings, and 2. aesthetics - the people buying expensive custom rods expect the builder to be current on technology and engineering design. On the current project I'm committed to 6mm running guides and 6mm tip (5.5). My thoughts are for the next rod

Guys, thanks for your input. The blank is a 10'6" Lamiglass steelhead blank (the flipping rod for bream in heavy cover posted earlier). Was thinking of a dec wrap above the fore grip, but now winder if I should change the design and make a split grip behind the reel seat, where flex is not much concern. I like the looks of abalone and would like to try it, but really want it to last. It

I read abalone is brittle and subject to cracking. Assuming a dec wrap is properly wrapped and Flex Coated, will it crack once the blank is flexed as in casting and fighting a fish?

In Fuji’s article “Theory of the New Guide Concept,” as they explain K-series guide layouts, they state: “….smaller rings actually improve line flow and result in longer casting distance,….” Reviewing the guide catalog, ring sizes for K-series running guides range down to 4mm; however, the smallest ring size for a tip is 6mm. Why doesn’t Fuji make a tip with a 4mm ring? Seems

Re the Fuji guide placement software (GPS) on AnglersResource, I am setting up a Penn Battle BTL3000 spin reel on a 10’ 6” Lamiglass XSH126M blank. GPS measurements are: A = 94mm; B = 86mm; C = 118mm. Using KL stripper/choke guides, then KT running guides to the tip. Choke point calculates 49.8”/1265mm. Understood. But I don’t understand the column data for ring size and position of

Can someone point me to a complete 2013 Fuji catalog?

Hi Roger, Good points. Agree my spacing technique is somewhat involved. I think we both have the same outcome - to load the blank according to the action. I've never had a blank failure using this loading. Now abuse is another story..... Will use a spinning reel. Penn has a nice reel, the Battle BTL1000, 130yds/8# braid, weighing in at 7.9 oz. Sounds like a reasonable matchup. Would

Roger and Russ, Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. Further thoughts: I considered a bamboo pole with a fixed line, like a jigger pole, but flipping is a must since distances range from right at the boat to 12 feet or so out. Further than 12 feet and fish cannot be controlled. So I need a line take-up system (reel). Roger, you’re right, no casting. Average size bream are ¾ t

In Florida lakes and rivers are thick fields of water lilies, frequently called bonnets, holding large bream, especially blue bream (copper head) and red-ear sunfish (shellcrackers). These fish are very powerful fighters and if you wait even a second after the bite, you are entangled in vegetation. The solution is a long stiff rod and use of braded mono for quick, reliable engagement. I've bee
