That thing is a powerhouse...probably CC's at closer to a 10.5 than an 8.5, from my unscientific casting tests. Pretty fast action with a nice, soft tip.
Actually, if you've fished a Dan Craft 907-4 FT, the two are quite similar.

1.24 ounces for 844-3 Sig V -- I built one up recently that tipped out at 1.98oz!
1.49 ounces for 905-3 Sig V -- Makes a great big trout rod or smallmouth rod.
I haven't weighed an 894-3, sorry, I'd guess around 1.40-1.45 oz...
I fished shad on the Potomac at Little Falls most of the spring with an 908-4 FT. Since I hooked about as many Americans as Hickories, and also some little strip

You may want to check out the Forecast series of blanks as they are also a 33mil moderate-action blank. I think there's probably a 9'0" 5 weight 4 piece in the lineup, or something very similar.

Email me if you are interested in getting some titanium (not just titanium colored!) slide band seats. I just had a set of them prototyped and they are gorgeous.

Gee, thanks, you just cost me $100!
Now I have no choice but to go out and buy one of these. I was supposedly going to wait until my current projects were done and out the door...but now...grr!

I have been watching for a used Forecast, AmTak, or PacBay power wrapper for several months now and still haven't seen one. I even put up a "Wanted" post a few weeks ago to no avail.
Seems like it's a pretty tough find.

277. Re: Salmon Fly Rod
I would not call the 1008-4 FT a medium fast action blank...it's really more toward the moderate side. CC'd at 59-60 for me. Probably a great rod for high grainage shooting heads, but not what I'd want for all-day casting as mine filled out at nearly 5.5oz.
I've been fishing a 908-4 recently and paired with an Airflo 40+ line, it's a rocket. Finished rod is about 4.5oz, but that's nearly a

Not to poke at a sensitive area here, but isn't a trade group like this also building the foundations for across-the-board fixed pricing, much like what we see already today in the factory-made fly rod arena?
I realize that it's a double-edged sword in that a lot of small fly shops couldn't exist without the generous markup that they get from a $700 retail rod, but I'd also like to be able t

John will get you what you need, at a great price to boot!
I emailed him late last night for a quotation, he sent it this morning, I sent payment, he confirmed it, and hopefully seven blanks and lots of etc. will be here in a few days. Doesn't get much easier than that!
Highly recommended.

I have a Dan Craft SigV 9'0" 5 weight headed to the finishing room now and it's got ceramics on it...wouldn't use anything else! These are quite thin-walled blanks as well and I haven't had any problems with this rod's predecessors...

Dan--
Resent you an email today; I am not sure whether I sent it on Friday or Saturday, but possibly fell victim to the crash. Hope you get things sorted out with the email and all the best to your family with a quick recovery from ailments!

I've found that Starbucks has nice stirring sticks for mixing epoxy. I don't use them to mix rod finish but I might test them out on some soon...

It does look rather strange but works well. The advice above about making sure the foot is tapered is right on....

The 908-4 FT I have really shines with an Airflo 40+ Distance line-- basically an integrated head system.
