I have marks on the side of my burnishing tool for reference. That way you don't have to hold or grab extra tools.

Chuck hit it on the head there. I have a couple TBs rods and they are great, but you definetely pay for them!

Thanks for the feedback guys! Looks like the Baston may be the route to go. I assumed that cutting down an open water rod was by best bet and now I have some great direction.
As always a thanks to Tom for this great resource for fisherman who build rods!

So this is a little off season but kind of nice to think about in the drought and 100 degree weather. I have a request for a lake trout rod for the ice. Mostly jigging in fairly deep lakes in western South Dakota outside of a shack, and mainly standing up to fish. He originaly said he wants 'a pool cue' with a reel on it. I'm guessing I will end up having to cut an open water blank down for t

I have done some and only used CP to get the feathers in position and hold them to the rod before epoxy. Not an expert by anymeans but they are really unique and gorgeous when finished!

Thanks for the feedback guys. When/if I need to overcoat, do I need to scuff or clean the surface at all or can I go right over?

So i know this has been tackled before but...my high build has stayed tacky on the last couple builds. I feel like my mix is good but they are not curing. They have been done in the basement, coldest room of the house, and outside is fairly humid, 65%+ or so in South Dakota.
Any thoughts...and next steps to remedy?
Thanks everyone!

I too like the Thorne Bros Sweetheart series...although they can get a bit pricy so I don't have many. I like the CRB series and the MHX line as well from Mudhole.
Mudhole - any plans on offering a MHX line of something other than Fast/Light in the future?

Hi Fellow Builders,
Quick question for you all. What is the best way (if there is one) to determine replacement guides on a fix job. I don't do a ton of them and don't have the seemingly vast knowledge many of you seem to have, but I would rather know how to determine the correct guides to use rather than ask everytime I need to find out for a specific rod.
Is there a place to go, way to

My American Water Spaniel, Dave, usually just keeps my feet warm when I am wrapping. However, there are those times with he decides it's play time and pushes his nose in my lap and makes it really fun to try and keep going. Wrapping is doable but epoxy begins to get a bit more challenging.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.
I am going to try Duane's idea to start. I used a arbor to fill some space to begin with with expoxy under and over, letting it cure now and then will wrap it with purple (matches reel seat insert) and cover with flex coat. Will post a picture when finished...crossing my fingers.

Looking for your guys' opinion. I am working on a couple gifts for a upcoming wedding...of course last minute...and I screwed up the handle and have a gap inbetween the seat and lower cork (about 1/4 in). Don't ask...just one of those lovely goofs. No guides are on yet.
My question is, do I remove everything and start over with a new handle assembly (en route from mudhole), or just remove t

Thanks for clairifying Chuck
Not just wood but really everything although wood is most intriguing to me at this point but I've been doing a lot of hard water rods so you don't have a lot of other things to mess with besides the handle. Thanks for the suggestions from everyone though!

Any suggestions for an affordable wood lathe to start messing with building some handle pieces?
