Thanks Jim. I didn't think that it has been that long since they discontinued the blanks. Will take your advice and contact North Fork Composites to see if they have anything in the pipeline similar to this discontinued G Loomis blank.

Looking for a G Loomis SU1448-GL2 surf blank. This blank has been discontinued for a year or two now and I have been looking for one for a while so please let me know if you have one laying around that you would like to sell. It's a two piece 12' surf blank that I am hoping to build to plunk for sturgeon and salmon on the Columbia River. Thank you.

I see your point about turning the cork pieces before gluing. Will definitely give that a try tonight. Thank you!

Yes it did! That is one heck of a piece of artwork, Leigh! It's gonna be a lot of work but my friend's gonna enjoy it tremendously. I have some superfine grade corks with very little imperfections. Gonna glue it on to the blank tonight then lathe it down using my power wrapper since I don't have an actual lathe. Then will take your advice regarding the stencil and exacto blader holder. It's

Below is a link to a tarpon inlay rear grip handle from fishingphotos.net: I was wondering if any of you could tell me how to do this. Do you glue the rear grip cork rings together first, lathe it down to desired shape and size, then trace the tarpon onto the cork handle, then cut out the tarpon with a razor blade, then cut out burnt brown corks and glue it onto the cork handle? I would

Hi Spencer, yes I have. Lamiglas only recommended 7 guides and tip-top, which, IMO, is too few guides. Plus they recommended really big guides. A lot of the fishing buddies that I fish with have these same blanks and they are using an average of 9 guides plus tiptop. I was thinking of using size 20 for my stripper guide and down to as small as size 12 for my top guides. I will do my own stat

Hi Ken, I was thinking more like the 1.18mm micro cords to wrap the handles on my plunking rods. The 1.18mm micro cords are much thicker than the thread that you recommended on the jewelsinfiber.com website. Thank you though!

I am in the process of putting together a couple of the Lamiglas G1000 GSB 144 2MH surf blanks for salmon/sturgeon plunking on the Columbia. I am thinking of using 10 guides total (includes tip top) and thinking of spending about $100 - $200 per guide set. Do any of you have any recommendations on what guides and tip top are available? I will be casting between 25-40lb monofilament and both of

I was wondering if any of you know where I could purchase some 1.18mm micro cords to wrap the handles on a couple of the Lamiglas G1000 surf rods that I am building for sturgeon/salmon plunking. I noticed that Atwood Rope has some of these micro cords on their website but all they had offered were solid colors. Thank you in advance.

I am in the market for a diamond shaped cork jig to cut diamonds for my custom rods. I know someone was selling it on @#$%&. However, I can't seem to find it now. Anyone have any idea where I can find a jig that can cut diamonds? Thanks in advance. Lam.

Slight pressure with fingers should work well. However, being a perfectionist, I find that you get a really good cut if you wrap tape around the cork to get a snug fit. More work but you will be very happy with how the pie slices turn out. Also, rather than using the tie that came with the kit to keep the pie pieces together when glued I find that a tight rubberband or two works much better i

Not to hijack this thread but if companies are going to make microguides, why can't they make them in sizes 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5 and 5.5? PLEASE! Also, how about a matching micro tiptop in the previously stated sizes. To me, when you jump from a size 3 to 4, it's to much of a size jump and not smooth enough for me. I know that I am of the minute few who like a smooth guide transition on my rods.

I am new to rod building and started wrapping my own rods because I was unhappy with the factory built rods and wanted the best-of-the-best components on my rods. I have used nothing but the Fuji titanium SiC guides on all my salmon and steelhead drift rods. While they are fairly expensive compared to other guides, they give me the confidence and ease-of-mind in knowing that I can trust that th

I was just curious to know if there is a specific formula/guideline that you guys use to determine rear grip handle length. I have a few Sage CT casting blanks that I would like to start wrapping but having a hard time deciding how long I would like the rear grip handles to be. These blanks are very nice and have been discontinued, so I want to make sure that I build the right. These rods will

I am having the hardest time trying to determine whether to build my rods as light as possible or to add weight to the butt end of the rod for balance. I have built a few St Croix SCV rods with 15" handles and anywhere from 3/4 to 1 and 1/4 ounce weight at the butt for balance. These rods are 10' long with microguides and are heavy but fishes, IMO, very well. However, a few builders that

I am looking for microguides to wrap on my Sage CT blanks. When I look at the microguides offered by various companies I notice that they only come in sizes 3 and 4. I have built a few rods with a 4.5/4 tip top followed by guides in sizes 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 7,8 and 10. These are the TLSG titanium silicon carbide guides made by Fuji. Fuji also has the CLAG concept alconite guides and LSG gunsm

I am in the process of stripping a couple of old factory rods that I have and rebuilding them. In the past I have used a metal saw to saw off the reel seat. However, I find that it sometimes cuts into the blank. I plan to extend these factory rods so need to make sure that the blank remains perfect. What is the best method to remove these old reel seats w/o damaging the blank? Thank you in a

Thanks for the advice Matt. I take it I can pick up some of this citristrip (citrus based paint stripper) at a local Home Depot or Lowes? Definitely will try it on this rod as you are right, I have stripped rods down before and it took forever to get all the paint and glue off with a razor blade and fine grade sandpaper. Thanks again for the advice.
