I agree, but sometimes the best techniques are the ones you figure out on your own your own. Thus the reason how those techniques are developed into some of the results you have seen. But let me see if I might be able to tackle your issue. After reading your post, it sparked my curiosity and I took a look at several reel seats I have lying around. Tape off the threads. I use ProKote medium build

Well, if you have some old reel seats lying around with different styles, I suggest you do like most that dont have access to alot of literature and well go back to old school trial and error before you go to town on the rod your building. I find that you learn more that way. and well you can see the results and learn from them first hand. This way you have a better basis and understanding for th

So I have some knowledge on how to build the grips. My curiosity is, when you have the carbon sleeve over the foam or eva core and its tied off to taper the ends, should a rod be inserted into the center to allow the dryer to spin it during resin coating application?

Todd you say? Yeah I'm gonna do that. Those monster heavers are pretty popular out here in OBX. They just have come to be very rare, and I can see why, its very expensive to have those bad boys shipped. haha thanks Kevin

So they emailed me back, and pretty quick. But they said that they aren't taking special orders right now, but they will be sending out emails to everyone closer to the expo for requests.

Thanks Tom. I emailed them today, so i'll see what they have to say. They have fairly good customer service when I deal with them. So I hope they tell me that they will be bringing some. I have had serious requests for the monster.

68. EXPO question
For anyone who has been before. This will be my first time going, and I'm hoping that the lamiglas booth will have 10-13ft one piece glass blanks with a size 26 or 28 top. Does anyone know if they will have them of have seen them there?

Sitting around, you always ask yourself... What can I do to step it up a notch with my rods? What can I create that will take rod building by storm? I challenge everyone to do something out of the ordinary, something different to their next project rod and post pictures. Wheather it be a new style grip, a new way to decorate a rod, a new technique in building itself. Share Ideas and failures. Mos

So in your opinion, the CP will prevent 100% adhesion of the guide to the blank?

Richard, I have used Minwax polyurethane fast dry, on most of the blanks I build that aren't glossy and if I have the desire to make em that way. It works wonderful!

well if your into painting and have a spray gun set up. ( I know its a little hardcore) But i have used Emron with some thinner to reduce weight. Its bulletproof paint that can withstand any wear and tear. Its almost like a marine coat, but with the thinner to help with the weight reduction, its perfect. Ive done 2 rods in it and it only added a couple grams. If its a rod that your not to concern

81. Re: Polyurethane
I bought a can of polyurethane from lowes and it works just as good. It has afast set time so you dont have to wait forever to start building the blank. I havent't had any issues with it. I reccomend atleast 3 coats.

oh I see. thats very interesting. when i was a kid, i had a fly rod that had this cool reel with a trigger like device, and once you compressed this trigger, the reel would automatically reel the line in. it was very cool. but i lost interest in it after like a day. hahaha

I agree, that the rod holders have something to do with it. Rod holders have done quite some damage to my rods in the past. Its jsut the nature of it, unfortunately. You live you learn.

But even if I went with an A thread it wont affect overall durability of keeping the guides to the rod?

I always wrap my guides in D thread on my saltwater rods. I know that its the final coat that holds the guide to the rod, but I like to think that the type and or size of thread has some sort of purpose, other than whats obvious.
