tom, thanks.
you suggested brushing some CP -- do you mean color preserver? -- on to the cork. i can see where this might build a stable "ramp:" for the thread to climb up the cork slope. to complete the thread wraps I should use the same tie off loop i would for any other wrap?

Does anyone know of a tutorial that shows how to finish an ultralight cork grip on a flyrod? I have installed and shaped the grip so that the forward end of the cork is tapered down to match the diameter of the blank. Now I want to wrap a 1/4" to 1/2" section of the finely tapered cork and continue wrapping on to the blank where the hook keeper will be.
Do I start wrapping on the

Is there a rule of thumb for the thickness of the walls on a cork reel seat? Here's my dilemma... I was going to make a cork/sliding band seat for a little 3/4wt glass rod. I already have some nice nickel sliding bands, but the butt of this blank is .392" and by the time I'm finished turning the cork down for the seat there's like an 1/8" of cork left. Is that enough for a cork &

I am getting ready to complete thread work on a three-piece spigot-ferruled glass fly rod. My question is: how long should I make the thread wraps on the male and female spigots...1/4", 1/2" ? What's the rule of thumb?

thanks guys, i will, as you say be "going up into the grip area" on the blank and 4-5" into sounds good. The fiberglass section I have was supplied with the blank and should fit in nicely. You say to Scotch-Brite the extension piece that slides 4-5" up into the blank... then...should I put the adhesive on the inside of the blank, on the outside surface of the Scotch-Brited

I'm cutting and adding an extension to a fiberglass fly rod and need some advice.
The extension will be a section of hollow fiberglass stock epoxied into the butt section of the blank.
My questions are:
-How snugly should the extension fit into the blank?
- How far (one, two, three inches?) should the extension slide up and into the butt section of the blank?
NOTE: Total length

42. which snakes?
Hello,
first post here... i will be building a glass fly rod and want to use double foot snake guides. There are just so many choices, brands, materials, etc., in a wide variety of prices ranging from $.65 to more than $2.00 apiece for snake guides... what is the difference in a .65 cent snake guide versus a $2 one? do the expensive ones really perform better? For those of you who use snake
