Ray, I make my grips off the rod as well and made a vertical lathe out of a drill press. I posted a tutorial on making your own cork grips, from start to finish onanother site. I don't think it would be appropriate for me to post that other site on here, but if you shoot me an e mail, I will give you the info. The tutorial shows the entire process.

I finally finished my power wrapper and wanted to know how to install a switch that reverses the motor if I need to spin it backwards in the event of thread wrapping over itself. The motor is a 110v 50/60 hz sewing machine motor with a foot pedal. The power cord has one normal end and the other has a female three prong plug which plugs into a male recepticle at the motor. Two of the wires from

I am getting bored with simple diamond and chevron wraps. I like the fish scale look. I purchased Billy V's decorative wrap book and am a bit overwhelmed with it even after reading his article in the latest RodMaker magazine. Can someone help me with simple instructions on achieving the fishscale wrap ? Thank you in advance.

I have built 8 of their float rod blanks, own two myself and plan on getting a third. The weight to strength ratio is incredible.

I am in the process of converting my hand wrapper to a power wrapper. I have the motor and pedal. I am in the process of buying the chuck and stand and need to know the following. When calculating the distance from the motor pulley to the drive wheel on the chuck stand, how tight should the belt (O Ring) be so it doesnt slip nor does it break from being too tight ? Thank you.

I am re wrapping a surf rod and am going to use a light color underwrap. The rod did have white paint under the original wrap. Do I need to paint under the wraps if I am careful to pack my size A thread tight ? If so what type of paint do you guys use to do this ? I don't want to do all this work and regret not painting under the wrap if it is recommended. Thank you.

Up till now I have been building float rods for steelhead and salmon and light spin rods and one boat rod. Now I am re building a 25 year old 12 foot surf rod for a friend. The guides on it are huge. The size 50 stripper guide feet has a span of over four inches. My questions: When removing the old guides, there is what appears to be white paint under the underwrap. It came off pretty eas

I keep reading lately that heating epoxy resin shortens the pot life. I don't know how I stumbled upon this methiod but I have been using it for a while. I did research on getting bubble free glass like finish on my builds. This is what i found . I use a candle warmer to heat both the resin and hardener. I use Threadmaster Lite. I then take a piece of aluminum foil; and lay it over a plastic dish

Cesar, you are correct. That spacing is for a float rod.

Bob, Better yet. This is the spacing that I have used on all my CTS 13'6'' builds (although I built on the 3 piece rods) Tip, 3 1/2 7 1/2 12 173/4 23 3/4 31 1/2 40 49 3/4 61 1/4 73 5/8 87 5/8 104 1/2 123 1/2 all measured in inches from the tip. This was forwarded to me by the Canadian distributor who is also a builder. CTS blanks are amazing.

Rodger, Thanks for the input. I have been wrapping without one for two years. I just got one to try it out. It does seem like it may be more of a hindrance than help. I just wanted to try it out of curiousity. So I wanted to put it in the right position to use it properly before I make a final decision. To me it looks like the only way it can work is if it is in front of me between me and the

I use a flexcoat hand wrapper which I have modified over the years. I added a magnetic tension device which is magnetic for my metallic thread use and it works fine. I recently purchased a thread tensioner that also has the tension wire with the loop at the end so that some tension is maintained when you back up on a wrap. iT IS My question is that the wire is 8 inches tall. Where do I mount

Paul, I just experienced the same thing when I tried a different brand of thread. I posted it and got a few responses from builders who experienced the same trouble with this brand. I dont want to trash the brand so I won't mention it again. It was a lighter color and was packed tight.

Thanks Tom and Rodger. I haven't wrapped a guide like this and didn't want it to look sloppy by covering the flat metal part of the guide foot that lays flat on the blank behind where the threads can go. Frank

I posted a pic in the photo section of a boat rod guide I wrapped for a friend in case I don't explain this properly. The part of right guide foot facing the middle of the wrap has an exposed flat part where the wraps end. When I apply the epoxy, do I simply apply the epoxy and push it into the tunnel formed under the right guide foot or apply it and put a light coat over the flat metal par
