62. Butt cap ideas
I am trying to get a rod finished that I put a wood handle on and am having trouble finding a suitable idea for what to use as a butt cap.Any ideas out there. The handle is curly maple and walnut, with walnut being on butt cap end.I guess.I have foam and rubberized cork butt caps but don't feel this would do this rod justice. If all else fails I guess I can turn something on my lathe.Any input is ap

Eric,I have been using Titebond for some time now and it seems that when the glue that oozes out is cured is a good sign all the glue has cured.Usually about an hour.i have had no problem sanding at this point. The only rpoblem I have had is forgetting to wax my mandrel and having the cork stick to the mandrel.Cork will fail before glue.Very good bond.

Does anyone out there use the pumps that Flex Coat sells for use in their larger bottles of finish?I just recieved a pair and was wondering about reliability of measurement amounts. Will they keep primed after each use? They have a means of locking them in the down position.Should they be kept locked down between uses? These sure seem handier than syringes if they work right. Thanks in advance for a

In my opinion layout is top priority and it sounds like you have that down.I do not try to use tape as my sole holding power.Start the wrap as if you were starting a guide wrap.By this I mean start by wrapping yuor thread over itself. This will help alot instead of depending on the tape. When you get to the other end of your wrap What I do is go around the blank a couple of times before starting ba

I recently acquired several honey colored Fenwick glass blanks and am planning on building three matching rods as there are three different lengths. These have laid in a rod builders shop for years and through time and handling the Fenwick eagle and logo that appear to be painted on have become a bit chipped.Would there be any way of filling in these chipped areas?

I am wanting to do a feather inlay on a wood handle.I plan on using Amazon parrot feathers as the customer is a parrot nut.Do the feathers need to be prepped in any way ie washing.I will be sticking the feathers to the handle with cp.What would be the best finish to use?I usually finish my handles with Tru oil,but would probably need to use something different over the feathers. Can I use regular

71. Re: weave loom
As of now I am just doing customers initials etc. Most of my time building rods is spent on butt wraps, but I like to personalize each one.Mainly I am looking for an easier method to handle numerous threads.A simple jig would probably suffice.

72. weave loom
I have done a few weaves with the double stick tape method and although sucessful I would like to try a loom. From what I have seen they don't look like they would be that hard to make.I have given it some thought and looked at others on different sites.I think someone had a post about using some kind of foam for the thread holders.I have never seen the underside of one and am unsure how they fast

I very much like the look of a narrow trim band but am having a heck of a time getting this done.I can get the desired width but am having a real problem tieing off. Also if anyone can lead me in the right direction doing single thread inlays it would be greatly appreciated.I am working on a Pac Bay rainforest blank with single foot guides and want to put a narrow trim band at one end and a narrow
