thank you all for you help very helpful, good point to place the rods in a bag to protect it from dust. we have a cat so stray cat hair are always an issue.

hello all, i have not posted a question in many years because i always found answers i needed. i am building 7 float rods at the same time, usually i will be building 1 or 2 at a time. what i would like to do is wrap all the rod before i apply the epoxy, because i do not have room to setup to wrap and epoxy as i build. i apply two coats of epoxy per rod, therefore it would take my about two weeks

i got a house of hardy fibatube fly rod blank 10-1/2 ft. rated for 6,7,8 weight with spigot ferrules. how long should the wrap be at the ferrules, i'm building this as a float rod for rainbows in smaller rivers. i will be make an elliptical inlay on the handle using cork. i no longer have my tablesaw, so i will be making the cut with a miter box and hand saw, what would the best type of saw to u

i have been using Raven blanks for many years, good value for the money , i have an IM6 - 13-1/2ft 3 pc great steelhead rod if you like a lighter and softer rod, IM8- 14ft lots of backbone and a RV9-13-1/2ft this blanks action is somewhere in the middle of the other two with lots of power when needed.

if the butt cap is epoxyed on use a heat gun and padded pliers, i just did the to remove the the front hood of a reel seat to machine the slot bigger so the reel will fit

i will be machining both hoods the rear one is already loose so that is the easy part, the hardest part was how to remove the front hood. i was surprised at how little epoxy was used to hold the reel seat together. has anyone ever have the hood and the body of the seat come apart?

the opening is not wide enough for the reel foot to fit, but i have taken the hood off the reel seat so it not a simple matter of taking it to the shop and machining the slot wider. i would like to thank everybody for your input and suggestions. i heated the top of the reel seat until i could see the expoy get a glazed look to it and place the hood in a bench vice and gave it a gentle tug, came o

if i reduce the size of the reel foot will that effect the way it would fit on other rods, it seems he wants to use the reels on other rods as well.

the rod i'm building is not mine, and the person will be using either a spinning reel or a centerpin and i don't think he wants to reduce the size of the reel foot because he uses the reels on other rods as well.

10. reel seat help
hello everybody. i need to remove the front hood of an aluminum reel seat to machine the slot bigger in order for the reel foot to fit. what would the best way to go about doing this? the reel seat also has a graphite insert so i'm not sure how much i can heat it up to soften the epoxy, would a heat gun to hot enough ?

I have a request to build a raven im8 - 13 1/2ft. float rod to be used with a bait casting reel. Would the rod twist too much at the tip section when the rod is loaded up if all the guides are place on the top of the rod? Should i use an acid wrap on the guides to prevent the twisting, and if I use an acid wrap how many guides should be used to offset around the rod? Or is building such a rod no
