The key is to match the right rod with the right crankbait. I build a series of crankbait rods and use several blanks to build them on. For the larger and medium size baits I like to use fiberglass. The moderate actions and parabolic bend of fiberglass can be a lifesaver on anything with treble hooks. For the smaller baits I will go with graphite but stick to popping blanks that have a more moder

U40 Rod Bond is an outstanding product and gives you some advantage over expoxy. The paste is easier to work with and the longer working time can be a life saver. It holds up over time. I can tell you that I have never had a rod come back with a loose grip or reel seat. That says volumes about the quality of the product.

I didn't comment on the spiral wrap because I don't spiral wrap my bass rods. That being said, there is no arguing that the spiral wrap will help to reduce twist on any rod. I have built about 2 dozen flippin' sticks on this blank. The 12 butt guide will work fine and I always step down to a 10, 8, 7, and then 6's. I need to hear from the salt water gurus out there. I am looking to build a 7' live bait rod utilizing 15-20lb test line for King Macs. What are your suggetions for blanks, guides, grips, etc?

If you haven't tried the new peel and stick decals from Decal Connection you might want to try them. They'll change your mind about peel and stick decals. They are nearly as thin as waterslide and very easy to use.

The Rainshadow IMB783 and ISB783 are both too stiff for a crankbait rod. You will be happier with something that is a little more moderate.

I would suggest putting the arbors in the reel seat first, then bore them to the desired size.

Check with Bingham Enterprises. Benchmark makes a reel seat like you're describing.
