Alex click on the GLOSSARY , Underwraps, it gives a short reason why. Your " bell" question, they can be done a number of ways, build it from Rod Bond, a epoxy coated graphite bushing, wood , buy them premade of a hard rubber....check with sponsors at left. Dave

Hi Tim, Just my thoughts, your guides are smaller so lighter. Single foot lighter. Smaller ring, and more of them the line is under better control and loads rod more evenly. SiC and Braided line great combo. This rod, reel, guide combo sounds like some of my surf rods.

Hi Stuart, I've built 2 with great success. I used a fiberglas 6' blank, an IGFA 30# and a IGFA 50# style blank. . I figured these would be a good starting point. Butt grip was EVA 12" long, Aluminum reel seat, a 4" EVA foregrip. Guides were Fugi double foot, starting from butt, a 30, 20 16, 12, 12, tip 12, the reel is TICA CYBERNETIC, with 50lb. braid. I caught Blues, Strippers, Mi

Hi George, Do you know the maker of the blanks ? you could measure tip & butt dia. & look for match, depending if glass or graphite. Then you can set blank in fixture at 45 degree , tie a string to tip , pull down by hand, or use a weight to see where it bends to figure action ie. top 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, full lenght. v-fast, fast, mod. , slow. I see Tom and I were tying at t

RAY & TOM, Fish Hawk is good but ProWrap blows most all others away in color selection. I do see some difference in how tight the thread is twisted between the different brands out there.

WES, I think JIM is correct, I've been using K guides, both Tit. w/ Alconite & SIC, FUGI Gunsmoke SS is what you want. I used Merrick tackle whole sale price list to find guide numbers, you need to call to get on-line price list, if you are a whole sale customer.

You could hold it to a table or something similar, with bend up . Put a slight weight tied to it. Then very light heat. Don't try to get it straight all at once, take your time, lite weight with slight heat, then let cool. May need to do a few cycles of warm & cool.

HI Cutting a blank changes the power/action, what do you want ? Not sure what NZ style is, using non-roller guides I use "bumper style spiral" wrap. Butt guide is up ( like the reel is ) next ( bumper ) is at 90 degrees, all the rest are down. Dave, PRRODS@AOL.COM

I'm with Bruce, I come from restorations. Water and oil don't mix. So it is not going to prep surface. Use DNA, mineral spirits, or auto body pre paint cleaner. NEVER take cap off can ,NEVER put rag over opening, tilt can back and forth, anything on rag goes back in to can, Get what I'm saying ??? !!!! You said " ON AXIS " You wipe blank up & down length ? SO you drag

Hi Matt Much easier design is " Bumper spiral ". Butt guide is up on say 0 , the next is 90, all running guides to tip are down, 180 from butt guide. You need to load the rod with the butt guide and running guides. The bumper guide @ 90 is where the line touches the blank. Use a low profile guide for bumper guide. The running guides and bumper guide can all be the same. Less guides

Hello all, Need alittle help, guy wants rod ( spinning ) to cast 1-1/2 oz a distance of 300' to catch steelhead 16+ lbs. he will be using 30 lb. braid line. No rod length restriction, but need to be sensitive. I know it's most likely got to be a fast action blank so he feels the bit. Some other craziness is he's up 50 ' above fast moving water, so this means fast moving bait, and quick to re-c

HI ALL, 1 ) Is there a formula for picking guide size for bait casting rod ? As an example use a 6' to 8' Bass/Musky/Pike blank. 2 ) How about a surf rod, over 10' up to 13' w/casting reel 3 ) Would a "bumper - spiral" wrap make much of a difference, besides maybe less guides on upper half of rod ? Thanks, Dave PRRODS

HELLO BLAIR The blank you want is LAMIGLAS IFW 84 2UL , that's 7' ultra lite, 2 pc. , line 2--8lb. I've used these, worked well. I used an all cork grip w/ spin rings to hold reel , very ! lite ! also FUGI Titanium frame guides. Mud Hole deals Lami. Dave, PRRODS

Hi Mitch, Set the choker guide with the spool off reel. This is easier, with the shaft all the way out, also easier. The spool moves up & down with the shaft, the shaft is in the body of the reel at a fixed angle, so spool in or out it is always pointing at the same point on the rod blank. As for optimum casting, the spool should be in the extended position, this way there will be no interf

HI WALKER, I build alot of ultra lites, most 5 ft. I would be against fewest guides are best, The top half , or third is so small and light you need enough guides to spread out the load on this portion of the rod. weight ? I use FUJI TITANIUM guides, the only way to go, you could use TLSG5.5J for the upper section of the rod. As close as 3 in. from tip, then down 4 in. next 5 or 6 in. tape some

HI ALL My question is; can the cure time for epoxies be shortened, or mix of 50/50 the only way to go? Or is polyesters the ones you can add more hardener, to shorten cure time? I mostly use FLEX COAT, lite build, 5 min., builders epoxy and rod bond. I have used Diamondite 1 hr. cure, but must use their CP. THANX
