I've built casting rods out of the GBC 6'10" M and GBC 6'10" ML and enjoy them both. I primarily use the medium power for small spinnerbaits and the medium light for small crankbaits. It looks like they are currently just a little over 21 dollars. I've paid more for lesser quality blanks.

This is my first rod. I built this rod specifically for this reel. I chose silver and gold guides, a silver and gold button for a butt cap. The guides are wrapped with gunmetal thread trimmed in gold.

Berkley guides from Janns. The handle is 12", the gold bands are spaced every 3 inches for easy fish measuring.

Inspired by photos seen on this board, I used a metal button that matched my reel as a buttcap. I am not sure if I like it yet. And I question its durabilty.

Jay, I have made 2 rods with almost identical handles. I used 2 IPSM16/B Graphite Spinning Reel Seat Bodys and 2 HPS Hidden Thread Up or Down Locking Foregrip. I cut the reel seats off at the point where the HPS hood rests when screwed tight. I then chose the length of the spacer to match the reel I was using. The only downside to this type of seat is that it is possible that you will fin

A Fuji IPS reel seat coupled with a KDPS hood would be pretty close. Look at this pic I found and use your imagination.

I have used it on several handles with no issues. This rod was built in 2010 and is holding up great.

Chris, I am in the St Louis MO area. I have also noticed a few other Missouri builders on this forum. I got together with Mike Brune in Rosebud MO last fall. I think that Mick McComesky is also in the St Louis area. You might want to check out Schneider's Rod shop in northern Arkansas. They could possibly put you in touch with other local rod builders.

The SB720-4 is a great blank. I have built two of these rods and have loved them, but I can't seem to keep one for myself.

Mike, I have been thinking about going, but was too unambitious to drive and too cheap to fly. If you would like someone to ride shotgun and split costs, let me know. I live in Union MO, you could pick me up on the way.

You can remove the hood from your KDPS and replace it with a gunsmoke hood from a regular fuji seat if you can't find a source for what you need. I recently did the same thing to get a black hood. I simply pulled the hoods off with a pair of needle nose pliers.

The Fuji HPS will fit. The Fuli KDPS will also fit and it looks better in my opinion.

Greetings fellow rod builders, I recently completed my first rod. I am quite pleased with my new rod. It is not very pretty but it functions perfectly. The rod consists of a $5 sanded graphite blank, Berkley guides and modified Fuji reel seat parts. I used the 27x method for guide placement. The board sponsors have all been very helpful. So helpful that I actually bought enough compo
