Thanks for all the info guys. I spent a bit of the afternoon laying it all out on graph paper so I hope it works out. I get the blanks in pretty soon so when I finish the weaves I'll try to post a picture.

I've been building rods for almost ten years now but I have not ever done any weaving to date. I have a couple projects coming up and I think I'm finally ready to try my hand at weaving. I have Doc Ski's video on weaving and I understand how it works; I even have a couple patterns of yellowfin tuna but they are designed with size D thread.
I want to make my own weave of an albacore tuna and I

After much contemplation I'm going with the RCLB70ML and RCLB80XL... I guess I'll get something a little bigger when I head south to California. I'd love to build on the super seekers, they are just a little pricey for me right now... maybe in a few years. I'm planning on a tuna weave and split grips with sic guides; should be pretty sweet.

I would love to build a couple rods and the retail for Calstars/Seekers are about double the Batson blanks, so it is definitely looking attractive to me. I'm pretty well stocked in guides and reel seats so the majority of the cost will be in the blanks.
So which TWO blanks now?
RCLB70L and _______________?
I'm thinking of building on one of their vertical jigging blanks as well... maybe

Not to be redundant here but isn't the Batson RCLB70L about the same rating as the Calstar GF700L?
I'm not familiar with the Batson blanks, but they are definitely modestly priced. How is the quality of these blanks in comparison with the more expensive blank companies out there?

Wow, thanks everybody for your suggestions... I got a lot more replies than I thought I would, and quick!. I'll go a bit heavier and beef up the rod. I'll look into the seeker and Batson blanks.
Thanks again, Jerry

I'm looking for some suggestions for an albacore tuna rod. I will be moving to Oregon and I want to do some albacore fishing off the coast. I really do not know much about this fishing but I'm reading up on it and getting excited. Here is what I'm thinking: something around 7' and 15-30lb. I will probably pair it up with an Avet or Accurate and attempt to cast live/dead bait or lures. I'm hoping

Has ANYBODY out there used the Calstar Butterfly Jigging blanks? I would like some feedback regarding their line ratings.
Thanks!

Billy, I hear you are the guy I want to talk to regarding the Hercules Blanks.
Will the Hercules work well with the lighter jigs... 3.5oz? I was under the impression that they were too beefy for the lighter jigs.
Another question I have is regarding the warranty. Now I'm pretty certain I'm not going to break anything as I take care of all reels and rods, but will the warranty on the Hercules be

Hey Everybody,
I'm looking into building my first jigging rods and I'm looking for some input and experience. I've done some research on the internet but I still have a lot of questions.
I'm planning on building at least one (probably two) conventional and one spinning setup. I would like to modify two of them to 5'8" or less so that I can travel without the airlines charging $$$ for ov
