Someone must have done this before, but I haven't seen it- I've been working at braiding 3 threads and wrapping them as band. If I were better at braiding, I'm sure it would look even better, but it gives a different look. Kinda cool. Maybe someone knows a better way? Also, the split grip is actually a metallic black "dragon scale". Yeah, it didn't work. It looked awesome unt

White graphite blank I got from Lance at Swampland. Pac Bay Minima reel seat and AmTac titanium guides. Love it. Caught 5 nice reds the first time I used it.

15. Make-a-Wish 6
Rod I just finished for a Silent @#$%& to Benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Thanks to Bill Batson at Batson Enterprises for donating the materials. The generous folks at Batson have been really helpful. This is the second rod they've donated materials for. Their materials are top quality. I really like this rod, I may put in a bid for it myself!

16. Make-a-Wish 4
Another rod I built for a silent @#$%& for the Make-a-Wish foundation. It's all NCP thread, but I used 2 coats of the new Chroma Seal CP. It worked great, the white stayed white. I think the abstract design on split grips is my "new thing"

I used to get noise with them when fishing with braid, but not for several years. I think the braids have improved overall and it's not an issue any more. I mainly fish with invisibraid by spiderwire. I use recoil guides on probably half of my spinning rods.

Other than white ( I use gudebrod ncp white), I use Madeira for everything.

I used to have lots of CP problems too. I now do what Bill suggests. I thin the CP 50/50 with water, but I apply 5-6 coats. This also completely saturates the thread. When it looks glossy, the epoxy covers evenly with no fisheyes. I spend a lot of time on my decorative wraps, I don't mind taking extra time with CP to ensure the colors stay true.

I have a Loomis 7 wt. with 2 tips. I put snake guides on one and single foot guides on the other. I really can't tell the difference when casting.

I'd sure like to see REC make the Recoil guides in the shape of the old foolproof guides. I build quite a few flight spinning rods, and I think the shape would work well with braid. I have a bunch of rods with the Recoil guides, but I've always liked the look of the foulproofs. I suspect braided lines would eat them up though......

When I read the title of this thread, I immediately wondered if it was a micro wave guide. I've built a ton of spinning rods, but I found that the microwave stripper guide sometimes pulls out much easier than other guides. I had one come loose even with the forehan locking wrap. Never had a problem before, but I've recently had 3 microwave stripper guides come loose since I started using them.

I've used them on a couple of rods for over a year with no issues. I put them on the last rod I built for myself. Tired of breaking other guides taking them in and out of tube in the rod locker.

I really liked these guides. They looked good, they flexed well, and they were lightweight. That's all I used back in the day. I really wish REC would make this style in their titanium wire. I think they would be great for braided lines.

The rod broke setting the hook on a redfish. Very strange. Some kind of blemish, flaw, or damage to the blank I guess. I've never seen a rod break where it did, right in the power section. I've never had one break on a hookset either. I sent it (with a letter of explanation) to the St. Croix warranty dept. with a check for the handling fee, they sent a new blank back with the original in a w
