I built an 8wt switch rod on one of their switch blanks. Very happ with the results. I have been using it throwing a 570 skagit compact. Also works well with a 10wt outbound for overhead work.

I've got an SP720-4 that is way overkill. I think that I may have to look to alternatives outside of actual rod blanks. Possibly a thin fiberglass shaft and sand it down. I've been all over the internet and the only thing that I can find is a little info on Tanago rods from Japan. Exactly what I'm looking for, but they are about $150. I assume most of that cost has to do with getting them he

I have a guy looking for a micro fishing rod. (Not to be confused with a rod that has micro guides)
I have researched this and it is basically fishing for minnows. Very small fish, very small hooks, lightest of line, etc. Also, no reel. Similar to Tenkara, but lighter and smaller.
My initial thought was to use a long ultra light or micro light ice fishing blank, but can't locate anythi

Hi,
I have been looking to build a 5-6' 3wt for a while now, but have had trouble finding blanks. I can locate 2wts and 4wts.
My question is would a 1 piece ultra light suffice?? The 2 I had in mind were the MHX spinning series.
Thanks in advance.

I am in search of a 5'-5'6" e glass blank or moderate graphite blank for trolling small cranks in freshwater for walleyes. These would be the "inside" rods on a 4 rod spread. I have found some stuff for saltwater, but they are over the top on power. Will be used with 10lb fireline. I know there are few options for these types of rods in the 7'+ range, but have had trouble locat

A file such as a round bastard. Work your way around the ID bit by bit while keeping the hole centered and symmetrical. Or just use a reamer.

Tenkara USA does not offer blanks, just finished rods. FYI.

I have been searching the net for a while looking for a telescopic graphite blank light enough to try my hand at a tenkara rod, but have yet to nail one down. Anyone out there dabbled at this??

Does anyone make spinning reel seat in a smaller diameter than a size 16?? I am making an ultra light and wanted to try a small diameter grip.
I realize a Tennessee grip would be the easiest rout to obtain the end product, but would like to do a reel seat with epoxy ramps front and rear. Very minimalist.
Thanks in advance.

I noticed a video out there of a guy who modified a 10ft 3 wt BVK by adding a rear grip to it and turned it into a 2 hander. Looked pretty slick!

You may want to check into a hotshot blank.
Or try extending a SJ9000-MHX.
What are you trying to do with this rod?(live bait, cast cranks, pitch jigs, rigging?)

Bill,
I built an 8wt MHX switch rod this spring and finally got out to use, it, and like it so much, I want to implement the technique on smaller flies and fish. Looking to swing some small indicator rigs in large pools on small streams that have high banks and not much room for backcasts. I fished these pools for years, and areas always seemed out of reach. After spending some time getting

Bill, yes, I understand the grain window thing. My plan was to find a 3wt rated blank in the 10-11' range and try some 5wt Ambush Triangle Taper on it.

I am looking to build a light duty 2 hander. I am having a hard time locating anything long enough that is this light.
There are a couple blanks from Anglers Roost I am interested in. Their 11 foot 2/3 and 3/4 wts. Anyone have experience or feedback on these??
Also, I have found a couple different 3 wt blanks from 10-11' on @#$%&. Not much info to go on on those.
Thanks in advance

Having trouble locating a starting point for the guide layout on this guy. This is my first switch rod. Can't be too much different that a fly rod, right?
I am considering just starting with a 10'-8" switch rod layout and static testing from there.
Thoughts?
Thanks

I made one last year by cutting the tip off of a gator glass live bait blank. 34" with over sized guides. Tourned out to be a great rod for bigger fish.

Quinn, thanks for the quick response, and your probably right about the subject matter of my post.
I do have a couple of questions concerning the build though.
Grip length(fore and rear) what is typical or at least a guideline to start from?
Will a standard fly guide set up work or should I look at something else, ceramics?
Thanks again.

Hi all,
For my next build, I want to dabble in 2 handed fly casting, and after some research, I have decided on a switch rod. Now, I live nowhere near salmon or steelhead water, but plan on lake fishing for warmwater species, primarily streamer fishing.
Questions, what type of taper would be recommended for this style of switch fishing(Skagit, Scandi, Spey)? Do I match the rod weight wi
