Hi there, looking to build a drop shot spinning rod for Great Lake smallmouth.
I don't want to spend a fortune on the blank but am looking for something light weight and strong. This set up will use braided line to a fluorocarbon leader.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

Hi, looking to build a nice rod for jig fishing for bass.
Any feedback on the NFC MB 709-1 blanks? Any other NFC or non NFC suggestions?
I flip using 55lb braid and prefer a 7' rod.

14. Abalone Uses
Hi there,
Has anyone used abalone veneers for anything other then a rod?
I am curious as to how easy they would be to use on different applications. I have used the peel and stick type from MUDHOLE and like how they look.
I am wondering if there is a thinner veneer out there to go over a Save Phace mask AND to see if it would be easy to do. Getting a mask airbrushed would be expensive!

16. Re: Snake Skin
Normally I use NCP thread so I am unsire about using CP
Do I need to keep the rod turning after applying CP? I am thinking yes so it dries evenly.
How long does it take to dry usually?

17. Snake Skin
Hi there, I have searched and found info on applying a snake skin.
My question is after applying the skin with CP to the blank can I do wraps on the ends of the skin and then apply more CP or should I apply the CP and let it dry before wrapping the ends?
thanks

Hi there!
I am still a rookie as well.
I did my first few build with the cheaper Mudhole blanks. They are resonable in price and good blanks!
I did a build on a Batson RX8 blank and was very impressed as well.
Enjoy your new highly addictive hobby!

20. Glass Blanks
Hi there
I am planning on building some crankbait rods on some glass blanks.
I will be using micros and would like to try a spiral wrap on one of them.
I did a search on the site and saw one thread where they suggested not to do a spiral on a glass crankbait rod.
Can someone shed some light as to why no spiral on these blanks? Just looking to expand my knowledge and make better choices on

Hi, I want to build a blank for my uncle who fishes a lot out of Chesepeake Bay for croakers and spots and the like.
What blank would you recommend for this build? Nothing too expensive, a resonable strong blank.
Thanks

Hi there! Looking for suggestions fo a 7' blank
I want to build a rod for throwing a hollow or plastic frog into slop, grass, pads etc.
I will be going with micro guides.
Spiral or straight with the guides? I have never built a spiral wrap before.

23. Re: Thread sizes
I am fairly new to rod building. I began by using D thread.
My most recent build I used A thread. I like the A thread a lot more then D. The wraps look so much better then the ones I did with D.
I will not use D again to wrap guides.

That's what I thought.
I don't understand our postal systems. If I order something from Japan it gets to me in days.
I order from the US and it takes weeks sometimes.
Damn customs delays!

Hi,
I am waiting for my finish to arrive but would like to finish an ice rod I built for my father.
I used NCP thread, can I finish the threads with slow setting epoxy?

Would it be possible to paint finish (similar to thread finish) onto the reel seat after painting and then turning it?
How can I thin it out for easier use?
