I have built rods on both blanks. Yes I mainly build saltwater offshore rods but every so often I get requests for worm rods. My customers chose bushido over the MHK everytime..why? They say they are more sensitive, they break less often and don't always need to be carried in a felt lined case. Lol. My recommend the bushido to you 100%. I prefer them, my clients prefer them and in my OPINION they

So just to be clear each axis has a dot in my case at 1/2"? Each dot on each axis represents a cross point?

I'm spinning my wheels but not getting anywhere. So on 4 axis wrap. I have my dots at 1/2" apart on all 4 axes. So on thread one up the blank I connect axis 1 and 3 or connect 2 to 4? Or does it not matter

Chris- I have been trying your instructions over and over. I think I'm making progress. So the layout pattern really shows up on axis 1 and 3? It seems axis 2 and 4 is really only present for alignment?

Working on this a bit more today. Should I be connecting the 0 axis and 90 degree axis with my layout thread?

Hello all
Im trying to figure out how to make an optical chevron on an 80lb stand up rod. I know the under color needs to be light. I cant seem to find a simple explination on how to do the wrap. I have bith clemens book but am still unclear. Can anyone offer an explination? Thank you.

I agree with Tom. But if you are trying to get more distance of out the rod consider using a guides with larger rings and higher set off the blank. You WILL lose accuracy but if distance is all that matters than I have found that larger and higher guides will increase distance. Also, a larger ring tip top will have the same affect. If we are speaking purely in blank comparison Tom makes the perfe

14wt for a white marlin or smaller fish no problem.
personally for a blue or a black i wouldn't throw a fly with less than a 15-16+.
i fought a BF tune on a 12 wt for 2 hrs and it stopped being fun after about 45 minutes. needless to say the fish was nearly dead when i got i up and i was totally dead. arms hurt for days! remember a rod too light may break but will take a really long time t

I have been researching this since about 6 am this morning. But i think i now have a better clue what i am looking for. I am NOT looking for a SPEY rod, but i AM looking for an overhead/ switch rod appx 12-13 feet in length.
i found this link, which has some really reasonable prices. i would need something in the 7-8 wt range.
i would of course prefer to use a sponsor of the forum for t

lane,
than was kind of my fear. I guess i should go try to cast one both with 2 hands and 1 hand and see what what i like. I appreciate your opinion.
anyone know where i might be able to score a reasonably priced blank?

thanks for the reply everyone. However, i was considering buidling ON a 13' blank, but building it as a SINGLE handed rod. Still having a heck of a time finding a blank than is less than $300.
thanks

Hello Everyone,
I fly fish ALOT off the beach down here in S. Florida and I have an interest in budiling a 10-13 foot single handed fly rod for the beach. My theory is that i will be able to hold more line in the air and cast further with a longer rod while being bound on the shore. Im not looking at making a 2 handed rod mainly bc that style of fishing just doesnt interest me all that much,

28. Fly seat help
I bought the American tackle aw12 seat with the Burl wood insert but it's too small for the blank. Is it ok to ream out the wood insert a bit to fit the blank? Maybe with the dremel or with some sandpaper? It's a close fit but not loose enough for my comfort. Thanks

vic,
thats a great idea. unforuntaly i dont have a scanner to it that. plus i assume it would lose alot of its luster. not sure. any ideas of how i can get finish inbetween the feet of snake guides were the balnk is really thin? super small brush maybe?
thanks,
grant

I dint mean put finish on it than put it on the rod.I meant should I put the abalone on the rod,put finish over it than wrap the guides. Or stick the abalone on, wrap the guides than finish the guide wraps and the abalone together.I felt it might be hard to get a good finish over the abalone if it's inbetween the foot of the snake guides.
