Was searching a parallel subject and stumbled across this: . I’m making the assumption that most epoxies are created somewhat equal; and I only included below what I felt were rod building–related blurbs that jumped out at me (emphasis added via capitalization) Thinning West System Epoxy A question frequently posed to our technical staff is "can I thin West System epoxy so it will f

I'm sorry for butting in uninvited, but I'm dying to know what sort of rod you guys are building. When I convert these to inches, it's more than 20" from the tip to the first guide, then only 2.5" between guides 1 & 2, 2 & 3, 3 & 4, etc up to guide #6, then 5" between 6 & 7, and 7 & 8, and a 15" - 16.5" jump from there to the butt guide. 1– 8cm

Browsing the photo section, came across Roger's 'Thread stand for large thread spools', which uses bent piano wire as thread guide . . . and I might have thunk a thought Often, 'fuzzies' are attributed to thread rubbing in Singer-style thread tensioners, and the solution is usually to applu tension to the spool. I have no idea how Roger tensions thread coming off his thread stand, but just

Shouldn't there be a correlation with AFTMA line weight, eg, the 'ideal' AFTMA line weight for an 8 weight rod is 210 grains, which equals 0.48 ounces . . . about half an ounce. By the same token, 30' of 'ideal' 4wt line would weight 0.27oz; 30' of 10wt line = 0.64oz; and 14wt line, 1.14oz. I would think this would closely establish a 'sweet spot' lure weight. By the way, this pretty much

Interested in the ventilated grip myself, so took notes when I ran across it on Clark's board not too terribly long ago. One respondent said (from my notes, not verbatim): "I own Martha Marie Young's Perfectionist made by her husband Paul Young, and it has the ventilated grip. Looking at it with a magnifying glass, you see where Paul Young set the cork, then trapped it using silk windi

Trying to think thru a light 7' – 7½' spinning rod. Is there any info to be gained in static testing a micro–guide spinning rod upside down, ie, guides UP, as in static testing a casting rod? Thought being that a snappy backcast with very little guide height off the blank might actually see the line touching the blank between guides; ergo, static test in that position, and the number and s
