The Weibe Seat is still available. I think Anglers Workshop carries them. The current rosewood mid body will not work with a spinning hood, only casting. We use the wood mid body on special orders. For everything else we use the offset, a concept first dreamed by Gary Loomis and Ken Weibe years ago. Let me know if you can't find one and we'll put one together for you. J

Gary and I have a conflict this year with the Bass Master Classic. Don't take it personally Robert, we were there last year, so I don't think you're responsible! Tom is right, we just can't get everything in and we are currently working to release new blank and rod lines for Tuna, Halibut, Bass and inshore fisheries. JB

We put our tubes on a lathe and then use a dremel tool. It's the only way to get a 100 percent perfectly square cut. It's especially important on our tapered handle, forecork and butt section tubes. Jon

Coating adds between 8 and 10 percent to a raw blank. We don't do it because a raw carbon blank will outperform a coated blank. I've done weight and frequency tests with identical models where one was coated and one wasn't. In both tests, the difference was roughly 10 percent. Coating helps catch fishermen, it doesn't help catch fish. Jon

We have a problem, and we are sure that the custom rod community has a solution for us. We're releasing our bass line, and it is going to include two swimbait rods. As you can imagine, the blanks are lightweight, but they are eight feet long and the butt diameter requires at least a size 18, and size 19 might be better. We've searched, and the choices for a non metal reel seat in size 18/19 ar

For steelhead drift fishing you want a moderate or slow action rod. The primary reason is for presentation. If you cast your pencil lead, swivel, corky and hook with a fast action rod, more of your casts will end up in a pile. Fouled gear doesn't catch fish. A moderate action allows a sweep cast which delivers the bait softly with fewer tangles. When fishing roe, sand shrimp or crawdad tails

Hi Sam, We have had problems with our phones. It's just part of the joy in being 10 miles from the nearest grocery store. It should be resolved by tomorrow. Jon

If you're going to make the 4 plus hour drive to Woodland from Sequim, feel free to arrange a trip to see us. If I moved to Sequim, I'd call Karry at Batson for a fishing report before my boxes were unpacked! Jon North Fork Composites LLC

Appreciate the interest. We are launching into rods under the Edge label. We have been interviewing out wrappers, finishers and handle builders. Look for some releases next week. Jon

We use pennies that are post 96, but then we weigh the entire package (pennies, bag, clip) and then use the conversion chart on our website. I've brought a copy of the charts with me to High Point. Jon

Hi Sam, A few things I would consider when buying a rod blank. First, most fly anglers evolve from rod to rod. By definition, a beginning caster hasn't developed the feel or style to know what rod will perform best for them. Most beginners start with a moderate action more traditional full flex rod because it is easier to feel it load and make good fishing casts. As feel gets developed, yo

Hi Nick, The MB 709 (HM) is a mighty fine stick, but don't feel trapped by our Flip 766 or 769 being six inches longer than you want. You can knock six inches off the butt of either of these blanks to get to your desired length. This does change the action some, and some custom builders will carefully measure, flex and diagram a blank at various length points to get that perfect action for t

Hey JB, Use a dremel wheel and cut a couple inches from the butt. It's best to fix the disc and roll the blank into it. That will keep you from getting stray fibers. Then use a fine sanding block to smooth the edges. We use a 3M diamond Hand Lap, the 74 micron one. Here is what folks don't tell you about warranty. If you buy a blank, and give it a solid stress test and it doesn't fai
