I think I know what the problem is. I went with my initial measurements and put the guides in place only to find out that it really didn't look right. So I sat there and thought, why did my other rods come out looking like they should and then i dawned on me. It is an 8' rod with a ultra light reel. The ultra light reel has a very small diameter spool compared to the size reel that normally goes

Tom,
i re-read the article and found no mention of progressive placement of the running guides. I did read the part that stated "unlike the running guides which were placed equidistant from each other , the reduction guides will be placed progressively , with the distance between each guide lessening as you move up the rod towards the choker". I did not see any other mention of progr

Hi,
I'm doing a layout on a 8' light action spinning blank and I am having some trouble with the new concept guide placement system. Here is what I came up with.
1.53 inches spool diameter = 38.862mm
Multiplied by 27 = 1049.274mm (equals 41.31 inches for choker placement)
that leaves me with 41.25 inches for running guides.
If I follow the instructions that are provided in the library an

I was walking around one of the local big box tackle shops in my area and I noticed a casting rod that has a telescopic section near the grip of the rod???? I have no idea what the advantage of this is, so I started looking around on the net. I found another company (high end imported Japanese casting rods) that has the same telescopic grip section. I found no information on what this section of

Thanks to everyone that recommended I use Thread Master finish for my rods. I now have glass smooth, bubble free results regardless of what I am trying to apply it to. Over the threads, no problem, over the decal, no problem.
Thanks Again

6. Re: testing
It was an adhesive. I just wanted to see if it would react the same as th LS Supreme. I also found some packets of pac bay rod finish laying around in my shop, so I tried that last night and again as of this morning it was glass smooth. I just hope the thread master works as well.

7. testing
After my last post regarding finish problems when coating my labels, I decided to run some tests on my LS Supreme rod finish. I coated some scraps of water slide decal paper with both Kyrlon clear gloss and Krylon clear satin. Over the top of a couple of the samples I brushed on some CP to see if that might alter the effects. I also set aside some samples with no Krylon. Every piece that I applie

The clear coat krylon came from the tutorial that I got from this site.
I spray the clear over the deal and let dry before I apply it to the rod.

I'll have to look into the thread master and give it a try.

11. finish problem
I've been having some trouble getting my LS Supreme to level out, but only on the label area of the rods that I build. It seems like it is reacting to something that's only on the label. The only thing that is different from the rest of the rod is the water slide decal paper that is coated with clear gloss Krylon. I have excellent results with the same batch of finish on the guide wraps. Do most

Being on the feather inlay topic. Does anyone have suggestions for the types of feathers used that tend to look "cooler" then others? I know that jungle cock is most commonly used but I thinking something different.
Thanks

16. Epoxy
Hi,
I was wondering if you could use a general 2 part epoxy to affix the reel seat to the blank instead of using products like U40 Rod Bond or other brands like it. My Rod Bond is getting a bit old and crusty and I don't have a local supplier that I can buy it from. Any suggestions for products that work just as good?
Thanks

I know that the Phenix drop shot blanks are the best I've seen. Like Ken said very light and a lot of backbone. Also very straight. I am very happy with their product.

19. 6" off the tip.
I tried to do a search for this problem, and I know that it has been covered on this forum but I can't seem to find the information I need. I have a rod with 6" broken off the tip, where can I find the info to fix it? I would like to re attach the section that broke off and I remember a mention of an external mandrel. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks

22. multi pc blank
I'm looking for a 10' blank with the most pcs possible. I will need it to fit into a back pack with a limited amount sticking out so the more pcs the better. The best one I found so far was a fly rod travel blank at 9' 5pc. Anyone know of anything that might work?
thanks

24. Re: books
Thanks guys.
I'm trying to follow the patterns that he has in the back of the book and my results are spotty at best. I'm not sure what I don't understand so maybe another set of guidelines will help me out. I've had some success with the basics he describes but the more complex patterns are not turning out.
Thanks for the info

25. books
Can anyone suggest a good book about thread art? I have "Custom thread Art" by Dale Clemens but I am finding it a bit difficult to understand the patterns he describes. I remember reading a post on here about a book that is similar but a bit easier to follow. I did a search but came up empty.
Thanks

Anyone know of a cork supplier? I'm looking for a block or a turning blank of high quality solid cork. I've found some made from burl cork and some rubberized but nothing in solid cork. I'm thinking maybe an exotic wood supplier would have some but nothing found yet.
thanks

28. Re: EVA foam id
Ok so I found some EVA at acid rod. Thanks for the link. I also happened to stumble on this hypalon stuff, any opinions on this material? Better than EVA? Heavier? Easier to work with?

29. EVA foam id
Is it normal to find EVA foam with such large inside diameters? I was looking around at some of the suppliers and the smallest ID I could find was 1/2". Does it come in smaller sizes or is there a way to deal with the large hole?
Thanks
