Well it iis realitivly simple, 1/4 inch hole + 1/4 inch bar stock = tight fit. Friction does the job nicely.

11. tip top glue
I have been wondering something, I bought tip top glue for my rod builds and have been useing it, but I was wondering, Would rod bond work for glueing the tip top in place? I use U40 rod bond for my grips and seats. WOuld this effectively glue the tip top on the rod?

Suddenly I am ashamed of my first build, i followed the advise on Mudhole's videos and used masking tape as an Arbor...... Rod still turned out beautifully!

13. Cork Turning
Oaky my questions are simple, least I hope they are. I made a home made cork lathe useing a 1/4 inch peice of bar stock and a drill. the rig is simple in design, large hose clamps hold the drill and the bar slides into a removeable brace that supports it on the other end. I use a zip tie to hold the drills trigger down while i am turning the cork.... So my question is this... Will it work?

Oscar,
I am new to rod building myself. After countless hours researching and reading posts here, reading the how too's in the library here, searching other sites, and looking up how too videos. I jumped in feet first. I built my first rod wrapping jig, order in my parts and supplies and am proud to say that I finished my first rod yesterday, after spending most of the day working on it. As

Okay, it started simply enough, I wanted to purchase new rods, and wanted some quality rods for my Bass fishing arsonal. So after some devoted time on the internet researching differant rods and rod builders, and seeinf the cost of such an undertakeing, i decided to take my time, and build my own. So i build my Rod Jig/Lathe. I buy some quality blanks. Make deessions on what type of handle, r

18. Re: spiral wrap
Well call me unconventional, but i am working on my first builds and I am going woth a simple spiral wrap on them.... A friend of mine who builds, (and is on the site somewhere) talked me into spiral wraps, I can see the logic in his arguments for them, so my rods are going to be spiral wrapped rods.

Scott,
these are one piece 7 foot rods. They are baitcasting builds, but I am planning on a simple spiral wrap.
Rusell,
Thanks on the advise, I have a friend who give me some measurements to start with on guide placement, and he gave me some simple instruction on how to fine tune from there. So this was my plan from the begining. I made a simple rig to hold the rod, and am useing an eye

Okay someone please correct me if I am wrong here. first you start with the handle, then second is the reel seat. third is the for grip.... (all this of course after locating the spine) so do you continuse this way, from the butt end up the rod to the tip, or does it matter which way you work either up or down when wrapping the guides in place?

Bobby Haynes
Mr. Stevens,
Thank you for your input and sharing those seats with me. I am relatively new to rod building, and am begining to see just how much i have to learn. i will play with some differant ideas, and see what i can come up with. i wanted to build one like this after seeing a Carrot Stix. I like the feel of these rods, and think i can build myself a high end rod similar to those.

the ones I am looking at are made by Fuji. they are similar to the ones used on the carrot stix.. if you have seen them. From thier appearance it looks like they would need to be tight against the blank, but i dont know....

On my next project I am looking a a two peice exposed blank reel seat. my question is this, how hard it is to set these on the blank... they have to be set just the right distance apart for them to work, but what about arbors and such, or do i have to order them with exact measurements to where i set them so they fit properly?

I use two differant types. U40 Rod bond is what i am useing for the bonding the reel seats and grips. I have settled on U40 dura gloss LS Supreme for my finish.

Well i live in Arkansas, so that place isnt around here, least not that I know of. I have another question right now, i am looking at mudhole.com right now and since I am buying the supplies for two rod builds. was wondering if it is better to buy the syringes, with 24 cc of expoxy, is that enough to do two rods or just one? should i just get the 4 oz bottles? this is for both, rod bonding f

My wife and her understanding of my hobbies is being tested to the limits!! She hears me talk about making rods for members of my family and makig plans for this and that, but she thinks of the cost and wants to scream....But I told her, i bought her that Quilting Machine, and it cost way way way way more than all my hobbies combined, so she has to tough it out.

Guess I just have to knuckle down and wait......... It is funny you should say go fishing while i wait... been doing that a lot in the past week.... I got in to this cause i wanted to revamp my Bass rods, and get new ones. could not afford to buy a cusdtom rod, or a name brand, but building them, seemed logical, so i am giving it a try, now, i am hooked on building, next question is, what

30. Finish Expoxy
Okay, i am all aobut saving money on my builds!!! Is there a widely avaible Expoxy that can be bought at local craft stores, or places like that as a finish expoxy? or maybe a two part expoxy, i can buy locally that will work to attach reel seats and cork?
I only ask, cause i hate waiting for ordered stuff, when i want to get a project going.
