Tom, in your article you say you tried making the background tacky. Did you try the spray-on adhesive used in stenciling?

I made mine 8.5" from table. This height puts blank at almost eye level, and elbows can rest comfortably on table top.

What about gearing up the motor you have? A couple of toothed timing pulleys and a matching toothed belt would do it. Of course, you would need a drive shaft and bearings- aw, forget it, cost is getting to be more than buying a new motor.

How about doing tests with Goo Gone, alcohol, any other solvent you can think of that won't harm the blank, then use the best one. Stand the blank in a shallow pan, tip end up. Tape it to a table leg or something to hold it up.Fill the blank from the tip end with the solvent, and let it set. I'll bet the adhesive will let go and the mess will drop out. The pan will catch the mess and the solven

I have a Shimano Sedona and a Pflueger Trion, and they are very close in quality. I like the Trion a little better, and it was less money. Mine is the 1000.

I am going with Roger's suggestion, and have ordered a electric manicure machine (ok, go ahead and laugh) from that big internet @#$%& site. The main component is a 0-17v dc variable power supply. It has a speed control foot peddle, on/off switch, reversing switch and speed control knob. Plugs into wall outlet. Price: $40 including shipping. Only problem (so far): it comes from China and takes a

Emory and Chad, IMO there is no perfect line, so you have to be a line watcher. Crappie bites can be a slight slackening of the line when the fish just mouths the bait, or a movement of the line off to the side as the fish slowly swms away with the bait. There may be little or no vibration of the line, so no rod tip movement, and no vibration to feel. You guys know all this, I'm just reminding.

Your post is an inspiration. I have been doing just as you did- reading, following posts on his forum, searching for parts for a rod wrapper, looking at all the supplies and rod components available - and had just about decided to give it up. All the experts on this forum know so much more than I could learn in 50 years, and the science behind most aspects of rod building seems so impossibly diff

Steven, thanks for saying what I (as a newbie) was afraid to say. Your solution was so obvious to me that I thought there must be some reason it should not be tried. I was thinking maybe some kind of undesirable thread twist would result, something everyone but me knows about.

Hello, everyone, I'm a newbie, too, and am in the process of getting my stuff together to start rod building. Did it years ago, but everything has changed so much, it is like starting from scratch. Anyway, I saw some ideas on chuck construction that can easily be done at home on items for sale under rod building equipment on that big online @#$%& site.. One in particular caught my eye- it was ma
