I just finished a cubs and a bears rod. Used ProWrap 343 for red and 470 for blue. The white was from an old spool with no label on it. Turned out reasonably close to cubby colors. Here is a sub-par photo of the area. I dont have a shot of a guide wrap with the white yet (I didnt use white to trim the logo area) but you can see the red and blue....and white is just white.

If you are concerned about the tag ends showing through without using CP you probably wouldnt want to run your tag ends on top of the guide feet that long. The easy answer is YES, you can do it so the tags wont be as visible but I'm not a talented enough teacher to explain the various techniques. What you are asking about would be considered an inlay rather than a trim band. Search the web

I agree. Except for the imeediate availability part. Everyone wants it NOW and that culture wont change. The good thing is that custom product

Discounting is the least desirable form of marketing in my opinion. It will drum up business but probably not the kind you want. If you want to ramp up quickly and get a bunch of jobs then discounting can help. Problem is you will have customers always expecting low prices from you. Personally I dont want people to choose me because I can build a rod cheaper than anyone else. My experience with

My wife tells me they are for removal and application of liquid foundation. The ones for powder are different. I've used 'em. Can get different shaped ones in the makeup isle at any department store. They work more like a squeege than an absorbant sponge. They are effective and precise.

In my mind salmon and steelhead trolling rods get level wind reels with line counters. You want to get your baits at the same distance. You cant do that accurately with a spinning reel. I like an HS1021 for a steelhead plug rod.

I have a basic flaw in my personality--i dont work well in clutter. So my shop is almost always a sterile environment. I used to wonder how people could accomplish anything with a messed up work area whether it be a desk, mechanics bay or whatever. Then I realized quite awhile back that everyone is wired differently and clutter actually helps some people. The stark, bright white walls and my

First you have to decide for what species of fish the rod is intended to catch. Then you'll settle on a technique. IE: flat line trolling, still fishing, vertical jigging, downrigger, drift fishing, drop shotting, etc... Then select a blank of appropriate material and design for the species and style. Guide choice can mostly be decided by the technique for which the rod will be employed as well

Yep, I thought it was a good article too. Some folks seem more concerned about the research methods and the math than about the point of the article which simply addressed the actual effects of common weight reduction methods. Applying science to something of practical concern to the rod building community is interesting and beneficial. If you just want to show everyone that you are a brillia

I'll print a decal on this media at the beginning of a build in order to give plenty of time for the ink to cure and set into the polyester film. I let the ink dry for a full day then hit it with 3 coats of Krylon crystal clear gloss, allowing it to sit for 8-12 hours between coats. Might be overkill on the wait time but I dont have finish issues and I dont think allowing extra time for the vol

If you are looking for cheap blanks I would search for discontinued and overstocked as opposed to blemished. You wont get a warranty either way but think about the cost of the components that you will put onto a non-warrantied blank. I would feel better about putting 60 bucks worth of componentry on a blank knowing that someone just had too many of them as opposed to wondering when the blank i

Justin...just do it. Like Tom said, keep it simple in the beginning and add techniques. In my world performance is 100 times more valuable than appearance but a perfect fit and finish is one ingredient in performance. The embelishments like inlayed cork, wood or abalone veneer, marbeling, decorative butt wraps etc... is all well and good but its just condiments. If you build a simple, high q

I have some stardust and have used it. It works for our purpose but is different from holo shine. Its different than the bubbles pattern for that matter too.

I added glitter to a marbeling section I did once. I used the superfine stuff that is nearly the consistency of fine white sand and it came out well. Customer wanted a "galactic" effect. Not sure how it would affect a tiger wrap. Here is a picture of it
