Hey, has anyone ever used Carbon (graphite) fibre instead of drywall tape to do this? There are several kinds of graphite fabric available here:
Plus, I imagine that rod builders must have lots of graphite fabric scraps around.

Thanks Gerry and Lynn. I just learned another new thing today.
I think I'll try the fiberglass tape idea Lynn. One final follow-up. I wrap them to determine the proper length of tape to create the perfect build-up, and then unwrap them. When I rewrap them with the Rod Bond, I imagine they'll get a bit thicker. After everything is dry, can you sand the tape/rodbond bushing?

Hi everyone,
I'm building my first graphite rod. It's a Sage Xi2-4 890. I've built bamboo rods before, but not graphite. I had decided on the Struble U-21 reel seat for my saltwater blank because I heard it is extremely strong and light. It's made from a titanium alloy, and so is supposedly corrosion free.

Thanks for the advice Tom. At shops, those guides are described as available in either chrome or gunsmoke. Do you know if they are made of titanium, and somehow colored? Or are those made of something else?

I have a Sage Xi2-4 890 (9', 8wt., 4-piece saltwater fly rod). Sage recommends the following guides: 5 #3's, 1 #4, 1 #5, 1 12LR, and 1 20LR.
I'd like to put the nice Fuji guides on the rod, but am not sure about sizing.
Can anyone recommend a compatible set of Fuji single-foot titanium SiC or Alconite guides? Something that matches 5 #3's, 1 #4, 1 #5, 1 12LR, and 1 20LR.
