I am looking for a spey rod to fish the middle of my favorite lake. I think I want a 5/6 wt. rod blank to build on. Any suggestion on where to get such an animal? Do I need a special reel and line for such a rod? Thanks for your help.

Lou, I fished Henry Hagg lake Saturday with some friends. I landed 2 rainbows using a yellow seal bugger. www.westfly.com is a great place for information. Another pay to fish lake is www.redhillslake.com with great fishing. Both are about 40 minutes from Portland. John

Wow, food for thought. The plan was to put some kind of paint into the engraved area then wipe off the extra. The guy I am working with has been at this for years but has not tried this. Thanks for all the feedback. John

I have seen laser engraving on reel seats, wood inserts and cork. My question to you all is would it create a structural problem to engrave right on the rod blank and then epoxy over the area? I watched a guy engrave right on a piece of plain white paper and not burn trough it. Thanks for your insights
