I'm with Dwayne and Pat. I bought the Rikon several years ago (on sale) at Woodcraft. I also bought the stand and put locking wheels underneath. I roll it out and lock down the wheels when I'm using it and then roll it out of the way when finished. Sam

Joe, I've tried several CP's but must say I seem to have settled on Casons Crystal Clear cut 50% with distilled water. The thread soaks it in displacing any air. I always use two coats (sometimes 3) and have been very happy so far. I wasn't quite as pleased using it full strength. It you don't want any air introduced into your finish, that wasn't there when you mixed it, this is the way I

I don't. I just wrap with thread, let two coats of CP dry and then two (or more thin) coats of epoxy. Sam

Billy, I know you "slept" on the sofa in the lobby Saturday night but I assure you I was in room 625 at the Best Western. I am also aware of the model car the NERBS had doing doughnuts in the lobby of the Best Western Saturday night. Not to mention the darn goose/duck call someone enjoyed blowing at mid-night to 1:00 AM. By the way, just my personal opinion, you looked like @#$%&

Lynn, I, too, will miss not seeing you at the Expo. I remember the night when I was first getting started in the craft and we spoke on the phone for probably 90 minutes with you explaining various ways to glue cork rings together. I'll always appreciate your willingness to help a rookie. One of my highlights of attending ICRBE is seeing you and Karen and catching up. I assume that by now yo

Merrick sales double sided tape. I always use it for decorative wraps so the threads don't slip/move. It is more expensive but my time is worth it not to have to re-do it because of slipped threads. -sjh

Mike, I, like Tom K, use the measurement times .135 for most of my handles. For someone with an 8 inch measurement from finger tip to wrist crease that would make a final handle size of 1.08 inches. Sam

Charlie, take good notes to share. I wish I could make it because the subject matter sounds exciting and what I need to learn. But, that date is my wife's 50th birthday and we've made plans to go to DC. I'm not sure she would understand my skipping out on her and heading to High Point for the day. Sam

Josh, Any hoppy shop would have Testor's enamel paint. As Duane said you can use Testor's flat black - they also have a metallic black if you want a little sparkle. Buy some, let it settle a little bit, pour off the clear solvent (some people do this some people don't) and use a toothpick (or some other instrument) to get a small amount of pigment and add it to your epoxy. Add one drop at a t

I've fished Castaway blanks in the Lower Laguna Madre of Texas for trout, flounder and redfish; Lake Fork Texas for bass; Lake Okechobee for bass; and in the 1,000 island area of the Florida Keys for snook and the only performance issue I've had was when I rolled an electric window up and didn't realize the tip had gone outside the car when I rolled the window down and I broke the TT off. I have

Ken, I'm like everyone else and use Rod Bond. I use blue painters tape (not very tacky) and tape off each end of my handles, reelseat, foregrip and butt cap before I start assembly on the blank. Any Rod Bond that squeezes out at the joints is on the tape surface (generally). I remove the tape after I have a good fit, wipe with alcohol/coffee filters and then use a toothbrush dipped in alcohol to

Kevin, Good Morning to you also. Yes, more snow. I've now had over 40 inches at my home in the past 5 weeks- and this is Central VA. I, for one, would like a copy of the DVD and paln on purchasing a couple of sheets of Abalone to experiment with after watching the DVD and attending your session at the show. See you at ICRBE and let's hope for warm weather. I really don't want to be stan

Craig, I own the Dale Clements thread art book, along with Billy's book, along with Tom K's basic rod building book. Tom's has the best visual discription and hands on instruction for doing a diamond wrap. Billy's book is a better "how-to" for many different patterns. Dale's is very informative but being new at this is harder for me to grasp. Flex Coat also has wrap patterns you can

Nick, I bnelieve the question has been answered regarding prepping the micro guides so I'll leave that portion alone. How to hold them? I recently asked Lance (from Swampland) the same question. Here's what I've done and it works for me. I asked my dentist for some forceps that are locking with a 90 turn at the end. He gave me an old pair. I had some very thin weather stripping at home so I

You shouldn't have a problem. As Mike said, the burl cork is denser than the natural cork so it is harder to sand. Using a block helps keep things even. Sam

Chuck, I have the Rikon midi-lathe and have been using it for about 8 months. I haven't had a single problem and it does everything I need at this time. I can't tell you how it compares to the Jet since I've never used one. Sam

Let me first give a disclosure that I'm new to this craft so I constantly experimenting. Having said that, I temprarily spaced my last guides on a 7 ft spinning rod by locating the choke guide 27X and spacing and then butt guide to tip top as I deemed appropriate from RodMaker and SE guides Cd from Tom. I then did the static deflection test and got my guides where I thought they should be - l
