here is a shot of the rainshadow rcjb84xh i built.i used timber rattler skin for butt wrap and base wrap on guides. took 4 coats of finish to get it like glass over the skin.

couple other tricks is to use different color metallic markers to color the blank under the skins . the snake is kinda silvery under the skin, not black like most blanks. I also use masking tape to remove scales from skins prior to gluing them on. less finish required to get a smooth job.

try ritz fabric dye. also a silver sharpie on the blank under the skin helps the color stay bright.

i ship rods in 2x4 pvc downspout tube. the square shape fits rods better than round tube. i also tape the rod to a strip of wood so that the tip doesn't hit the end of the tube.

silver sharpie under light thread keeps them nice and bright. lot easier than paint also.

you most likely put more cp on the guides that took longer too dry and return to the desired color. i use silver sharpies to lighten the blank under light colored threads to keep the colors true.

you might try acrylic grout sealer if you can get that locally.

i use the 2'x3' pvc downspout tube from homedepot. 10ft for 7 bucks. the rectangle shape works great for spinning and saltwater rods with tall guides. i also ship usps and have had very good luck,no broken rods yet!
