That's what I've been told as well - the fly blanks were always higher modulus - and therefore the CCS numbers haven't changed (no change in the blanks). On a somewhat related note, I measured the ERN/AA for my F662-3 and F904-4 blanks. I measured ERN=1.20, AA = 55 deg for the 2wt and ERN = 4.37, AA = 70 deg for the 4wt. Both compare fairly well with Mudhole's "official" CCS values.

Ed - I've read a couple reviews of the TFO 1wt. Send me an email and I'll pass on the links to the website.

Here are a few 1wt blanks I've considered but have yet to pull the trigger on:
- Orvis 7'6" 1wt Superfine Touch
- Sage TXL/TXL-F 7'10" 1wt
- Custom/Prime CTS blank
- Elkhorn Western 7' 2pc 1wt (have to check with Elkhorn on blank availability)
- TFO Finesse 6'9" 4pc 1wt

I've been thinking seriously about using a single foot guide instead of a tubed tiptop on my next rod - an RX7 6'6" 2pc 2wt.
Any suggestions on the best way to go about this? Anything I need to pay special attention to?
Thanks.

One other trick I've learned is to use a site specific search in Google, such as:
site:rodbuilding.org MHX
I use this on a number of websites that have minimum word length requirements in there search function.

The MHX CCS datasheet I downloaded from Mudhole's website a couple of months ago included the 967-4. Perhaps this has been updated with the release of the blank, but nevertheless here's the info listed in the PDF file:

10. Re: 2 WT Fly Rod
I just ordered a MHX 6'6" 3pc 2wt blank to try as well, and I'm really looking forward to it based on the other MHX reviews I've read (not seen any on that particular blank yet). You might also consider Batson's RX7 6'6" 2wt blanks. I have one of their 2pc 2wts waiting for me to start building. They also offer a 4pc 2wt in the RX7 lineup.

Thanks Walt. I'll keep that in mind when finishing my next rod.
As for applying epoxy to the butt section where I've got a longer area to finish, I always use a fresh batch to maximize the self-leveling ability of the epoxy. I start with the longer areas and then move onto the shorter guide wraps.

When removing the extra, sagging epoxy do you actually touch the blank with your brush/spatula or do you only touch the epoxy?

No problem, Herb.
As far as Recoils go, I have used the light-wire single foots on 3wts and below, light-wire double foot guides on 3wt and 4wts, and heavy double foots for 5wts. Even the heavy Recoils are pretty light themselves. I've got a 9'6" 4wt coming up in a few months that I'm looking at using heavy single foot Recoils on, maybe ... I have yet to try them myself.

Herb -- why do you go for the heavy single foots vs the lite singles?

Everyone will have their own opinion on the balance of fit/finish, style, functionality, and pricing. Some reel seats, though fully functional, just don't fit the style and quality I'm looking for on a particular rod. Sometime you're limited by the amount you can spend on a reel seat. For most rods I build, REC seats are my choice. I personally like the ABS/NBS and AUSL/NSUSL seats. So far,
