As a beginner rod builder I find the extensive selection available confusing and baffling.
Concept guides, micro guides, etc, etc, etc. And of course Striper guides, different sizes, guide materials, ring materials…………
Anyone can recommend reading material on information about selecting guides, pros, cons, etc.??
Thank You,

Wanting o build a couple of spiral wrap trolling rods for kokanee/trout/land lock kings
Prefer a one piece, 7'-8, glass-composite-graphite?
I read about using a Seeker CSP702-1, however I could not find such blank on their catalog, I found a SP702 under the spining section though.
Thanks!

Lamiglas Composite Crankbait CCB 84 5M, they are 7' blanks but I'm in the process of extending a couple of them to 8' for striper trolling rods. The action and sensitivity of the tip is great, easy to tell by the tip action what the lure is doing. Reasonable priced also as they are discontinued, the replacement is a 7'2" blank.

New to rod building and working on guide placement for the first time.
I'm following Tom's K. steps on the article " static guide placement" on the library page, my question...
I spaced the guides on the first step, then add more load and continue moving the guides to the apropiate location...but when adding more load to the blank to work on the last guides the line passing though the

Working on ordering parts for my new hobbie, or addiction is more of what I hear.
What is the standard winding check made out of?
Choices are rubber or rubber/vinyl, what to get? Ofcourse there is metal also but I don't think I need them on my first rod.
Also I read on TK's book to just put a few dabs of epoxy on the edge, but loking at my commercial rods I see they are completly sealed wi

Thanks for the advice!
I'll be using a Cabela's Fish Eagle II GST905, it is a Fast action, MH, 8-17 lb test blank.
I ordered type A thread so will see how it goes,
I will probably wrap and rewrap several times until I get it right, I'm very ana..and a perfectionist, I'm my worst critic!

In the process of selecting/purchasing materials for my first ever rod. Got to a stand still when I came to thread. I understand the different type letters refer to diameter, so what diameter should I use for the guides, hook keeper, etc.
Thanks!

Ok,
Tom I just finished reading on the subject in your book. There you say that orientation of the spine on the rod is very much the builders own preference since the factors mentioned above and in the book really throws the school on spine out of the window.
So, on a spiral rod it seems better to locate the front guides on the inside curve?
And like stated by John, make the transition fro

Also if anyone is located in the San Francisco bay area (east bay even better)
