Anyone know of a printer that compares to the ALPS MD-1000 type printers. I see that Olympus makes a Dye-Sublimation Digital Photo Printer (Model P-10). I guess it will do most of what the ALPS does except you would have to cut the sheets of water slide stuff because its is not a full size printer. I think the alps has gold and silver ribbons too but I wonder how long you will be able to get t

Terry, you might be able to push the mandrel thru the head stock before you tighten the chuck so that you only have 5 or 6 inches between the chuck and the tail center. hope your Turncrafter Pro lets you do that? The Jet does. That gets rid of alot of the flex and corresponding tool chatter. Also, I think Andy will make shorter mandrels if you ask?

Thats the way to do it. Titebond 3 is waterproof and is a good choice for the glue.

I think it will be just fine myself. Its a synthetic material (nylon?) and you seal the cork under it first before putting the glue on for the flocking so I don't think a smell will get embeded.
Here is a thread to read too..

Derek,
Consider flocking the grips. There is at least one article in a back issue of Rodmaker Magazine (Volume 7 #4 Jul/Aug '04 ) and lots of talk of it here in this forum.
I works great over cork but I'm not sure about the forgrip, might work fine on that too. If not, you could cut off the hypalon and install cork. You are going to cover it anyway so you can cut the rings in half and

If it is one you have built (or you know what finish was used) you could rough up the surface with 3m scotch-brite 7448 pad and put a lite coat on top.

Mike, 43 inches sounds like a long way to me. One way to figure out where to put the first guide is with the "THE NEW GUIDE CONCEPT" here is a link to it
Use the reel that plan on using for this rod. You should also test cast to make sure the like doesnt slap the blank and the casting performance is what you are looking for etc....
Like Tom said 8 guides would be cutting it c

use an old piece of rod and do a wrap that matches the real rod. Apply your LS Supreme and see what it looks like...

See if there is a thread tension device that you can salvage too.

If the grips are not too dark already (like black) maybe a liquid dye will work?

I didn't need that to prove it. I opened my suitcase and pulled out 100 burl cork rings and a spine finder. Where else you going to get stuff like that? lol...

20. Re: EVA glue?
Fred, you want to use DAP 'Weldwood' contact cement. Apply to both sides, wait 15 min then put together. use a clamp or some other means to put alot of pressure for a few seconds.

You guys have a great ideas about a big booth some lathes. The show was awesome but that would be something good to add next year.
I saw some people wrap a guide for the first time in Ken’s booth. I bet they left the show with some supplies for their first rod.

If you don't have the need for speed but want the other avantage of a high end wrapper then just get the bed and the rod supports. You can buy just what you need and save money. I really like having the rod held secure in the renzetti style holders. Just my 2 cents worth....

I just looked on the mudhole website and the camo rear grip sizes are:
9" x 3/8" ID
9" x 1/2" ID
9" x 5/8" ID
and the camo fore grip sizes are
2" x 1/4" ID
2" x 3/8" ID
2" x 1/2" ID
If you have a big gap at the top of the fore you could use a hosel insted of a winding check.

You could build up the section where the grip will go with tape (or something) like you do with a reel seat. It would add some weight but the grip sections are probably not going to be very long on a small rod like that so it shouldn't bee too bad.

You know your a rodbuilder when...
You read the interview with Dale Clemens more then 2 times
You consider moving within driving distance to Mudhole
You have way more thread than your wife
You check rodbuilding.org more than 5 times a day
You have a picture of every rod you've made but not of everyone in the family!
You get up a 3am (without an alarm clock) to see if the highbuild is stil
